The Regional Operations Team is the service delivery arm of Regulatory Operations Group and administers the Work, Health and Safety Act 2011 (WHS Act) through a variety of prevention, compliance and enforcement activities. Services are delivered across the country through employees working in regional offices in QLD, NSW, VIC, TAS, SA, NT, WA and ACT. The key duties of the position include WHS Inspectors play a vital role in workplace health and safety by helping employers understand their work health and safety responsibilities, fostering a cooperative and consultative approach with workers and their representatives and by taking appropriate action when non-compliance is found. WHS Inspectors undertake a range of Work Health and Safety (WHS) regulatory activities in accordance with relevant legislation, policy and procedures. The work includes: WHS related prevention programs and campaigns, stakeholder engagement and dispute resolution, presentations, inspections and investigations across a wide range of industries and risk factors (physical and psychosocial). The role requires working as a member of a team, assisting to mentor less experienced inspectors, and working collaboratively with a wide range of stakeholders including employers, workers, complainants, Health and Safety Representatives, employer associations, unions, and federal and state government agencies. Provide information and advice to duty holders on the requirements of work health and safety law to increase levels of compliance and improved WHS practices. Undertake workplace inspections across a diverse range of industries and risk factors (physical and psychological) and identify breaches of Commonwealth WHS legislation. Lead criminal WHS investigations as required using sound investigative methodology. Lead preventative inspectorate activities including compliance and follow-up inspections, stakeholder engagement and presentations/forums. Contribute to the capture of regulatory intelligence and identification of regulatory priorities to better inform regulatory responses. Assist in the resolution of health and safety issues between employers, workers and worker representatives (including unions). Mentor and support less experienced staff through the provision of guidance, training and/or quality assurance. Prepare high-level written work including inspector reports, case records, correspondence, briefings of evidence and submissions. Develop and maintain internal and external relationships with stakeholders, providing appropriate advice and managing the resolution of issues or complaints. Maintain business knowledge about Comcare's regulatory activities and operations and the regulatory management system and an understanding of relevant statutory, regulatory and policy frameworks. Maintain a high standard of record keeping and undertake work that is complex in nature and operate under limited direction. Model and promote a healthy and safe working environment, modelling and promoting ethical behaviour and practices consistent with the APS Code of Conduct and Values. Qualifications Diploma of Government (Workplace Inspection) or obtain within 18 months of engagement.
