Background Approach are working closely with a key Federal Government Department to source a Strategic Business Analyst. This role will be pivotal in helping establish a new team and working alongside other senior strategic staff within the Department to identify ICT priorities and shape portfolio delivery. Why this role? This role would suit an individual with a strong consulting background who has been involved in large-scale ICT transformation and takes pride in unpacking complex strategic challenges. What makes this unique is the involvement in major business cases, engagement with senior decision-makers and scoping opportunities within the Department. This is not a traditional Business Analyst position. It’s a strategic, high-visibility role where you’ll work alongside senior leaders, map future ICT direction, and help build a high-performing business analysis capability from the ground up. What you’ll bring: 8 years BA experience (or equivalent) in large, complex organisations (Federal Government or consulting preferred) Ability to frame and communicate big-picture strategies while understanding technical detail Experience influencing senior executives and building trusted stakeholder relationships Strong consulting toolkit – problem-solving, analysis, and structured communication Previous ICT digital transformation, or ICT strategy experience Extensive experience with: Systems Analysis Service design Consistently demonstrate qualities including: adaptability, intelligence, interpersonal communication skills and relationship building Business Architecture (highly desirable) What you’ll do: Identify and shape opportunities that deliver measurable value for the Department Lead strategic analysis and requirements definition for complex ICT initiatives Work with technical teams to design enterprise-wide solutions and integrations Produce high-quality technical and strategic documentation Build a Business Analyst team and capability through coaching, from the ground up Requirements: As this role is within Federal Government, the role will require a minimum of a BASELINE AGSVA security clearance (or ability to obtain) This is a Canberra - based role and will require 3-5 days per week on-site.
