The DCS Legal team supports a range of portfolio business clients including Digital.NSW, Government Technology Platforms, Service NSW, NSW Fair Trading, the NSW Telco Authority, SafeWork NSW, the Building Commission and the State Insurance Regulatory Authority (SIRA). Our lawyers are involved in cutting edge projects such as: Whole of Government contracts with major international technology vendors; Innovative projects such as Digital Identity and Verifiable Credentials; Cybersecurity and privacy; Critical Communications Enhancement Program; Artificial Intelligence frameworks; Government Shared Services; Innovative digital products; NSW Government Digital Strategy; Government app and platforms development; Intellectual Property; and Cloud service delivery. We have Principal Lawyer roles in both our Digital and Platforms team and our Corporate and Commercial team. As a Principal Lawyer you will have carriage of and lead projects representing Legal Division in the provision of independent, accurate, and timely legal services that support the agency’s strategic, operational, and legislative priorities. There are opportunities to participate in initiatives across DCS and across Government including steering committees on significant projects that drive the digital agenda for NSW. These are ongoing opportunities. A talent pool may be created for future opportunities. Remuneration of $149,739 - $173,174 super & leave loading, commensurate with experience. Based in Sydney CBD with hybrid working options available. The professional in these roles will need to: Provide strategic, pragmatic, focused and accountable specialist legal advice and strategy across a range of commercial, ICT, and digital areas. Confidently lead, conduct, and support complex commercial negotiations to ensure compliance with legislative and regulatory requirements and successful delivery of outcomes for major projects. Advise, draft, review, and negotiate a range of documents and agreements including for software and product acquisition/licensing, product development, intellectual property in information technology, digital transformation, and cloud service delivery. Be adept at working with a variety of stakeholders to interpret and distil complex legal issues in the preparation of contractual and other documentation to ensure that statutory, ethical, probity and other legal obligations are properly addressed. About you: You are admitted as a legal practitioner of the Supreme Court of New South Wales and hold or, be eligible to hold, a current practising certificate as a solicitor. You have advanced analytical ability, lateral thinking and problem-solving including an ability to apply legal principles in a practical way. You possess excellent stakeholder management, interpersonal, and communication skills and a proven ability to work collaboratively and flexibly with key stakeholders across all levels to support optimal service delivery outcomes. You are a client focussed team player with great initiative, who thrives managing competing deadlines and priorities in a fast paced and dynamic environment. You will hold Bachelor of Laws or equivalent degree qualification and have a minimum of 6 years relevant post qualification in one or more of the following areas in either private, in-house corporate or government practice: Digital and Technology law Corporate and Commercial law Consumer protection law Intellectual Property (IP) law Trade practices law Information access and privacy law What we need from you: To start your journey towards becoming one of our Principal Lawyers, please submit a covering letter (maximum two pages) and an up-to-date resume of no more than five pages which clearly details your skills and experience as relevant to this position.
