At the forefront of cancer control, Professor Karen Canfell and her team play a pivotal role in supporting policy, practice and decision-making for innovative cancer solutions. Their groundbreaking work has led to the transformation of Australia’s National Cervical Screening Program and National Bowel Cancer Screening Program. The work of Professor Canfell and her team has resulted in the first Roadmap to Liver Cancer Control in Australia. In collaboration with key government stakeholders, our research continues to lead the way in cancer screening, policy impact, and the prevention of major cancers such as cervical, bowel, lung, liver and breast cancer. Our team is recruiting a new role, suiting an individual with a strong understanding of the domestic and global cancer research and implementation ecosystem, in particular in the prevention, screening and early detection domains of colorectal and liver cancer, and with experience contributing to the design, analysis, reporting and delivery of high-quality cancer control research, based on mathematical modelling. Your key responsibilities will be to : build and maintain a reputation for academic excellence through independent and innovative contributions to research, expanding knowledge and practice in the discipline develop new and existing simulation modelling platforms to address cancer control policy questions disseminate research knowledge and facilitate knowledge transfer to drive impact maintain a research profile, including publication in academic or professional journals and engage in keynote addresses lead successful competitive research grants and/or generate other research income by exploring diverse funding opportunities maintain quality, standards and excellence in research activities and output provide mentoring and guidance to lower-level academics make a significant and holistic contribution to the research, administrative and governance activities of the school or faculty, including participating in committees and academic boards contribute to a positive workplace culture in which diversity of thought, contribution, collaboration, excellence and achieving outcomes are valued and enabled engage in community and alumni outreach, contribute expertise to public debates, and play a significant role in scholarly, research, or professional activities relevant to area of expertise establish partnerships, collaborations and engage in translational research for impactful outcomes in research, development, commercialisation, and policy improvement. About you have a PhD in an academic field relevant to the discipline strong knowledge of colorectal and liver cancer epidemiology, screening, surveillance and prevention strategies, as well as economic aspects of cancer control d eep experience in epidemiological and health economic simulation modelling, extensive experience evaluating clinical and policy questions around screening and cancer control strong understanding of population health and health services research methodologies experience developing new modelling methodologies to improve the quality and efficiency of simulation modelling platforms have an established network of established relationships with key academic, industry and professional institutions including government, partners and stakeholders that can be leveraged to enhance the standing of the faculty/University school and University are acknowledged at a national level as influential in expanding knowledge within the discipline significantly experienced in conducting original research and engaging in scholarly activity experience supervising and mentoring others in academic and professional roles demonstrated capacity to communicate effectively across a range of media and forums 7 years’ experience in a similar role/setting demonstrated software expertise in C++ and Python, ideally including experience in the Policy 1 simulation modelling platform demonstrated experience leading scientific publications, and a strong publication track record Sponsorship / work rights for Australia Work Rights: you must have unrestricted work rights in Australia for the duration of this employment to apply.
