About the Role Responsible for effective management and operation of Water and Wastewater Treatment Plants within the Caliban Water Region. Delivering operations and maintenance of the Water and Wastewater Treatment Plants on a day-to-day basis to deliver safe drinking water and compliant treated effluent, to meet the Company’s objectives. Nature of position: Permanent, Full Time Location: Bendigo Reporting Line: Senior Treatment Plant Operator Key Responsibilities & Duties Performing process sampling and jar testing on water and wastewater treatment streams to identify water quality and optimize plant operations Perform instrument calibrations and provide calibration reports in business system Perform daily housekeeping on assigned treatment plant sites Access, monitor and perform SCADA operations to ensure plant optimization and adequate response to alarms to avoid plant downtime and/or risk to consumers. Operate water and wastewater treatment plants according to operations and maintenance manuals and guidelines form the Senior Operator. Perform basic maintenance activities on dosing pumps, pipework, valves and other varied mechanical devices as necessary. Active involvement in ensuring the highest standard of safety is maintained for all stakeholders always. Ensure Service Stream’s safety processes and procedures are adhered to. Active engagement in all site safety initiatives. Contribute to a risk management culture to maximise the safety of people, plant and process impacted by project activities. Understand and comply with our safety/environmental policies and procedures, and promote health, safety and environmental initiatives across the team. Actively participate and support the company’s continuous improvement activities, policies and procedures ensuring your activities reflect the company’s Environment and Quality Management Systems. Sample, monitor, analyse and adjust the various treatment processes to ensure optimal plant and equipment performance at all phases of the operation. First Call Maintenance of Mechanical and Electrical equipment associated with Treatment Plants. Maintain a strong “task” orientation to achieve excellent results in complex situations. Support the management of the day-to-day operation of treatment plant and collection system including; timely and accurate reporting, management of customer complaints and service interruptions, contractor management, schedule works to maximise productivity and minimise resources and cost. Work with established Integrated Management System for Quality, Safety and Environmental Management to meet the ISO, regulatory and client requirements. Identify and support enhancement of productivity and continuous improvement. Liaise with the Senior Treatment Plant Operator or their designee, to ensure operations and commercial risks are identified and effectively managed. Support the implementation of strategies to ensure that project targets are being met. Work as a team player to meet the required outputs from the treatment plant, collection system, re-use scheme. Assist Service Technicians in breakdown situations or if additional help is required. Call out and weekend work will be required on a rotational basis. Ability to manage own time, focus on results and prioritise work to maximise performance within set project budgets. Operation of the whole system 24 hours per day/7 days per week. Contact the appropriate Duty Manager when assistance is required. Site security and communication with security contractor. Qualifications Certificate III or IV Water Industry Treatment qualified (or progressing towards this qualification) or higher Mechanical or Electrical Trade A full Australian (Manual) Drivers Licence – Essential Experience –Desirable and Essential Minimum 2 years’ experience in Operation of Treatment Plants or allied industry. – Desirable Technical Knowledge of Treatment Plants – Operations & Maintenance requirements, mechanical and electrical equipment, control systems, testing and record maintenance. Knowledge of Treatment Processes –clarification, filtration, disinfection, chemical dosing systems etc…. Knowledge of sewerage pump stations and collection systems – Operations and maintenance requirements, managing customer issues. Knowledge and capability to complete treatment process onsite laboratory analyses. Working knowledge in the use of MS Suite of applications, Excel etc., and Asset Management systems. Practical and Theoretical knowledge of SCADA Control Systems. Experienced in working to strict quality systems.
