The Opportunity: Join KBR’s Land Systems Division as we expand our presence supporting Australia’s most advanced land combat vehicle programs . We are seeking a skilled Software Engineer with Defence experience to work on the design, development, and integration of C4i systems for the Armoured Fighting Vehicle (AFV) branch and wider Land Systems portfolio. You’ll contribute to projects that deliver next-generation battle management systems, tactical communications, mobility applications, and secure mission software , directly supporting the Army’s operational effectiveness. All candidates will be required to hold and maintain an active NV1 Defence Security Clearance. Only candidates holding a NV1 Clearance or above should apply. Responsibilities: Land C4i systems – supporting manoeuvre, intelligence, reconnaissance, artillery, mobility, EW, logistics, and field services. Vehicular C4i integration – providing tactical maps, mission planning tools, and comms integration to vehicle crews. Developing real-time command & control (C2) software solutions for timely, data-driven decisions. Ensuring software interoperability across domains (land, air, sea, cyber) and coalition forces. Building secure, resilient communications (encryption, cyber defence, network management). Supporting data fusion, AI, and advanced analytics for sensor-driven battlefield intelligence. Developing applications for mobile command posts, soldier systems, and on-the-move situational awareness . Conducting software testing and validation in lab and field environments against Defence standards. Collaborating across disciplines – hardware, systems, cyber, and end-user soldiers/commanders. Maintaining and upgrading legacy and modernised C4i systems in line with evolving doctrine (e.g., JADC2). As the ideal candidate you will bring: Degree in Software Engineering, Computer Science, Systems Engineering, or related field . Experience in software development (C, C++, Java, or similar) for embedded, mission, or safety-critical systems. Knowledge of systems engineering and software lifecycle management within Defence contexts. Experience or interest in C4i integration and EMI/EMC compliance (highly desirable). Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills. Ability to work effectively in multi-disciplinary teams across Defence and industry. AGSVA clearance (Baseline minimum, NV1/NV2 preferred). All candidates will be required to hold and maintain an active NV1 Defence Security Clearance.
