Job Title Senior Legal Counsel Job Description An excellent opportunity is available for a Senior Legal Counsel to join the Legal Department at Australia’s pre-eminent biomedical research institute. About the Position This position is responsible for providing strategic and high quality corporate legal advice to support the Institute’s business operations. It does so by working closely with staff and students across WEHI’s academic and professional services teams. This position also collaborates with other members of WEHI’s legal department in education of staff and students, template development and maintenance, and ongoing projects to enhance legal service delivery. Selection Criteria Essential Knowledge and Skills: Legal qualifications and at least 6 years’ practical experience in commercial law Extensive experience in contract negotiation and management Experience using databases and software Experience working in-house will be desirable, particularly in a research and/or not-for-profit environment Personal Qualities: Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively as part of a small team Ability to engage effectively and develop strong relationships with stakeholders including scientists, external advisors, senior management, external partners Ability to act autonomously and with minimal supervision Strong communication skills Strong attention to detail and effective time management skills Ability to independently prioritise in a complex, dynamic environment Leadership skills Strong technical, conceptual and analytical skills coupled with commercial acumen Terms of Appointment This position is an ongoing role in a full time capacity or part time at 0.8 FTE. Salary is Professional Services Employee Level 10 ($171,493 - $185,628, Full Time Equivalent). Up to 17% superannuation and very attractive salary packaging options are available.
