The Australian War Memorial (AWM) is building a new public facing website (awm.gov.au) to better serve our diverse audiences. We're seeking an experienced Content Designer to lead activities that will inform and shape our new digital service. Working as part of the multidisciplinary team, the Content Designer will play a pivotal role in designing, creating and managing digital content that engages and informs our audiences. The Content Designer will create engaging digital experiences developing content which places users at the centre of our digital communication activities. The Content Designer will have the opportunity to influence and guide internal stakeholders on best practice digital communication. They will also contribute to the successful delivery of a major project using their high-level negotiation and cooperation skills. This position will initially be filled for 12 months, with the possibility of extension and/or permanency. The key duties of the position include Content Strategy & Information Architecture Collaborate with the team to develop a comprehensive Information Architecture based on user research findings Design content frameworks and taxonomies that improve discoverability and user navigation Define content types and required fields to support diverse publishing requirements Ensure content strategy aligns with project objectives and user needs Content Audit & Analysis Conduct comprehensive audit of approximately 6,000 existing web pages Assess content for relevance, accuracy, and quality Identify content for retention, updating, migration, or removal Document findings and provide recommendations for content improvement Create records management workflow for old content documentation Work with external vendors to scale up content audit and migration work when required Content Design & Development Design page layouts and content templates for key content types Assist in creating wireframes and prototypes for user testing in collaboration with the Service Designer Develop component-based design approaches Ensure content meets Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 Level AA compliance Apply AWM Style Guide standards consistently Stakeholder Engagement Work extensively with internal stakeholders across all Memorial sections Facilitate content workshops and consultations with subject matter experts Gather and document content requirements from various departments Collaborate with external vendors and project team members Support change management processes for content publishing workflows Quality Assurance & Testing Maintain focus on content quality and organisation throughout all project phases Test content approaches and information architecture with target users Support usability testing activities Ensure content migration planning and execution meets quality standards Validate content against user journeys and personas Documentation & Governance Develop content governance processes and publishing workflows Create content standards and style guidelines Document content migration procedures Support development of training materials for content publishers Establish content performance measurement frameworks Reporting & Collaboration Reports to Digital Delivery Manager Works closely with Digital Content Manager, Content Strategist, Service Designer, and Digital Development Manager. Collaborates with subject matter experts from across the Memorial Engages with external vendors as required
