Austrade is seeking a communications adviser to join its busy Media and Employee Communications Team. The team manages media and internal communications for the agency, and produces speeches for Austrade's CEO, deputy CEOs and the Minister for Trade, Tourism and Investment. Media Advisers play a pivotal role in protecting the reputation of Austrade and developing and distributing positive stories of Australian exporters and foreign investment in Australian communities in external media channels. The team works closely with Austrade's subject matter experts, including its international network and global engagement managers to identify and develop stories of successful Australian exporters, as well as managing media queries and issues. The successful candidate will have a demonstrated flair for identifying media angles related to trade and investment outcomes, thorough research and interviewing skills, high-level writing capability and spades of initiative. The candidate will also assist with employee communications which is a crucial part of Austrade's work, and informing, and connecting with Austrade staff. The key duties of the position include Research and write compelling and persuasive speeches and thought leadership materials for the Minister for Trade, Tourism and Investment (TTM), Austrade's CEO and deputy CEOs. Contribute to the development of a pipeline of media opportunities and positive stories for Trade and Tourism Minister (TTM) and Austrade Take a leading role in securing positive media coverage of priority Austrade issues and events. Devise media and communications plans for priority Austrade initiatives. Field enquiries from journalists and draft appropriate responses in consultation with the relevant Austrade line area. Participate in the after hours on-call media adviser roster to provide advice and media support out-of-hours. Train and mentor Austrade staff in how and when to engage with the media Monitoring agency-level events and broader Australian Government milestones and sourcing news and information from stakeholders Create internal written content and engaging audio-visual content using agency-approved software (Canva, Adobe Creative Suite, Microsoft Office and Dynamics) Tracking internal data analytics and metrics and using the data to inform our team, agency and Australian Government priorities and goals Liaising with Office Managers in Australia and at post locations abroad with general communication-related needs, including large-scale online events.
