The key duties of the position include The Role Naval Architecture Lead will engage with stakeholders, investigate naval architecture engineering concepts, deliver and manage naval architecture engineering specifications and resources in support of the Defence materiel capability lifecycle. Naval Architecture Lead will investigate, analyse and report on naval architecture engineering defects and requirements, develop and implement recommendations and advice to address issues. This position has people management responsibility and as such you will be required to exercise your people management skills and knowledge to lead a high performing and cohesive team. The key responsibilities for this role includes: Planning and managing shipyard surveillance, inspection, assessments and reporting on discipline specific equipment, sub system, system and whole of ship installation progress and quality; Providing assurance services on systems requirements and legislated standards related to relevant discipline; Providing technical advice within an area of specialisation during ship production and acceptance, related to product quality assurance; Assisting the technical assessment of discipline relevant aspects of design changes and deviations; Supporting the development and review of specifications, plans, procedures and design documents; and Undertaking review of quality assurance, technical and test reports. This role is eligible for an additional remuneration benefit known in Defence as a Building Defence Capability Payment (BDCP). This enables Defence to provide a premium, in addition to the base salary otherwise payable under the Defence Enterprise Collective Agreement (DECA), for positions in occupational disciplines/classifications that are critical to Defence capability. About our Team The Waterfront and Continuous Naval Shipbuilding and Sustainment (W&CNSS) Division is responsible for coordinating the uplift of the sovereign industrial base and management of Defence's presence in principal shipyards. The W&CNSS Division is comprised of Continuous naval shipbuilding and sustainment (CNSS) and Naval Construction Branches SA & WA (NCB). The CNSS Branch coordinates the development of the CNSS Key Enablers (industry, workforce, infrastructure, security and innovation) and administratively supports DEPSEC NSS in their role as the Capability Manager for CNSS. The Naval Construction Branches (SA & WA) provide effective governance, project assurance and performance oversight at Osborne Naval Shipyard in South Australia and Henderson Shipyard in Western Australia. The Division also maintains a minor presence at Port Macquarie in New South Wales to provide oversight on the construction of the Young Endeavour replacement.
