The position is based in the South West of Western Australia, with a focus on making sure local needs are addressed and local voices. Reporting to the Director of the Net Zero Regional Partnerships Team, the Regional Workforce Transition Officer's role is to support the workforce and community in your region to transition to a net zero economy by: Directly responding to challenges and taking advantage of opportunities within the local labour market. Sourcing local intelligence and evidence and communicating with influence to inform Australian Government policies and programs, both within the department and across agencies. There is a significant amount of autonomy in this role and to be the successful candidate you will have a high degree of personal drive, initiative and integrity, as well as a passion for helping people to collaborate and deliver outcomes for their local community. You will enjoy working independently and operating as part of a virtual team to ensure milestones and timeframes are met. Candidates will be required to hold a current Australian driver's licence and travel regularly throughout the South West WA Region (and surrounds) as a representative of the Australian Government at stakeholder forums and events. The position requires a physical presence in the South West WA Employment Region as you are expected to understand the region, be available for face-to-face meetings and community engagements with stakeholders, this may be up to 4 days a week. Not all meetings will be in office hours and so the role is also likely to require some out of hours work within the region and working from home as needed. The key duties of the position include The Australian Government is investing in supports and services for workers, families, employers, and communities likely to be affected by the closure of coal and gas-fired power stations, coal mines and other carbon-intensive facilities. As a person who is on-the-ground in the South West WA Employment Region, the Regional Workforce Transition Officer engages with their communities to understand local issues and coordinate supports as the region transitions to a net zero economy. As the Regional Workforce Transition Officer, you will: Support the employment priorities of the region by building and sustaining productive and collaborative working relationships with employment service providers, training and industry providers, peak body organisations, businesses, community organisations and education providers to maximise support for all job seekers. Drive engagement and discussion between Australian Government agencies, state government, councils and community-based organisations to understand what the community needs to deliver effective employment and skills initiatives. Develop a deep understanding of community needs, and collaboratively develop and deliver local initiatives that respond to these needs. You will administer a small, flexible fund to support these types of initiatives. Provide advice and inform policy development so that government initiatives work for and make a practical difference to those they intended to help.
