The Department of Lands, Planning and Environment’s Water Resource Division is responsible to manage the Northern Territory’s water resources. Extensive regional aquifers sustain flowing rivers in the Top End, and are relied upon by remote and regional communities throughout the Arid Zone. Currently DLPE are recruiting a Hydrogeologist to join its Water Assessment team in either the Palmerston, Katherine or Alice Springs office, and will appoint a suitable applicant at either the P2 or P3 level depending on the applicant’s skills and experience. All applications will be assessed against both classifications and the successful applicant/s will be appointed to the most suitable classification. As a Senior Hydrogeologist (P3) you provide project-based team leadership, undertake hydrogeological assessments, manage field programs to deliver the Division’s objectives. High quality technical writing skills, demonstrated knowledge of hydrogeology and modelling software, and the ability to communicate effectively is essential. As a Hydrogeologist (P2) your focus will be on providing hydrogeological input to scientific assessments, undertaking fieldwork and contributing to projects, evaluating hydrological and hydrogeological data. Both levels are responsible for investigation and assessment of the Territory’s water resources, recognising cultural values, and providing advice for the sustainable use of water. To be successful for either role, you require a degree qualification in Hydrogeology, or a Science discipline, have experience in data management processes using spatial tools (GIS and remote sensing), be able to undertake fieldwork in remote areas and hold a current or be able to obtain a C class NT Drivers licence. In return, you will receive a competitive remuneration package, inclusive of 11.5% superannuation, 6 weeks’ recreational and 3 weeks’ annual personal leave, 17.5% annual leave allowance and additional paid leave to cover the Christmas – New Year’s shut-down.
