Role Purpose We’re seeking a driven and strategic communicator to lead our marketing, media, and advocacy efforts—someone who knows how to build a compelling narrative, ignite public action, and shine a spotlight on issues that matter. This role will champion Pankind’s brand, shape our public voice, and help turn attention into action. You’ll play a critical role in shaping how Pankind is seen and heard—from national media to grassroots community events—and ensure our impact is not just felt but clearly measured and shared. Key Responsibilities Media, Communications & Public Profile Lead proactive media engagement and reactive media management to grow Pankind’s voice across news, health, research and current affairs media. Build and maintain relationships with journalists, producers, and media partners to increase media coverage and position Pankind as the authority on pancreatic cancer in Australia. Develop and manage compelling advocacy and media campaigns that raise awareness of the disease and influence public discourse. Prepare press releases, statements, speeches and op-eds that are timely, human, and powerful. Manage media responses during key health announcements, advocacy campaigns, research funding milestones or patient issues. Brand & Strategic Marketing Ensure consistent and impactful storytelling across all communication channels. Input in the creative of fundraising campaigns—balancing facts and heart—to inspire hope, urgency and action. Oversee digital marketing, social media, and website content strategy, ensuring clear, accessible, and engaging information for all audiences. Advocacy & Stakeholder Engagement Drive public and sector engagement in our mission, particularly through issue-based campaigns and awareness programs (e.g., early detection, access to treatment, or research equity). Partner with Programs and Research teams to amplify lived experience stories and research milestones, connecting people with a cause they care deeply about. Support Pankind’s advocacy strategy with compelling communications, policy briefs, media commentary, and sector submissions. Collaborate with external partners, ambassadors, research institutes and peak bodies to drive collective influence. Impact Reporting & Insights Measure and communicate the real-world impact of Pankind’s work—from research breakthroughs to patient support and system change. Produce annual impact reports, advocacy summaries and donor communications that translate outcomes into engaging, easy-to-understand stories. Work with the CEO and Programs team to shape key messages for government engagement, grant submissions and sector advocacy. Team Leadership & Organisational Contribution Lead initiativeswith a cross-disciplinary team (internal and agencies) across marketing, digital and fundraising. Work closely with colleagues in Fundraising, Programs and Research to ensure consistency of message and mission. Contribute to the Pankind Management Team, playing an active role in strategic planning and organisational growth. Who You Are A passionate communicator with experience leading marketing and communications in a purpose-driven organisation, charity, or health-related sector. Experienced in media engagement, advocacy communications and message development. A strategic thinker who is as comfortable pitching to a journalist as you are briefing the board. A compelling writer and editor, with a gift for turning complex ideas into clear, human stories. Insightful and impact-driven—you know how to use data and storytelling to build momentum and measure success. A collaborator and leader with a deep belief in the power of community, partnerships and purpose. Qualifications & Experience Minimum 8 years’ experience in a senior marketing, media, or communications leadership role, preferably in not-for-profit, health or advocacy settings. Strong track record in leading public campaigns and managing media strategy. Demonstrated experience in storytelling, content strategy, digital engagement and brand development. Skilled in stakeholder and partner engagement at all levels. Relevant tertiary qualifications in communications, marketing, public affairs, journalism or similar.
