Hyundai Rotem Company (HRC) was founded in 1977 and since that time, has been leading the industry globally by delivering critical national infrastructure in over 50 countries. A leader in the Korean rail industry, HRC has succeded in developing high-speed trains and is now establishing their presence in the Australian market. Currently, the Australian operation of HRC is working on two major projects: The New Intercity Fleet (NIF) Project - a joint venture between HRC, UGL and MEA, this project is delivering a fleet of new intercity trains for operation in the NSW electrified rail network. The fleet comprises of 55 Long Units and 70 Short Units for the Newcastle, Blue Mountains, South Coast and Central Coast Lines; and The Queensland Train Manufacturing Program (QTMP) - a project commissioning, designing and constructing a new manufacturing facility in Torbanlea Qld and a new maintenance facility in Ormeau Qld. It includes manufacturing and delivering 65 EMU Train sets (390 cars) by the end of 2031. Combined local and international design teams and suppliers will work together to ensure the delivery of manufacturing requirements and associated documentation to ensure that train sets locally manufactured in Australia meet the design, compliance, manufactuability, reliability, maintainability and safety specifications for the trains operational life for a minimum of at least 35 years. Job Purpose This role ensures the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of passenger access systems, directly contributing to passenger safety and operational uptime. The successful candidate will possess a strong mechanical aptitude, attention to detail, and a commitment to safety and quality. Key Responsibilities Perform door set-up (FMI) on the NIF passenger door systems. Conduct unscheduled corrective maintenance (CM) to diagnose and rectify faults on door mechanisms, controls, sensors, and associated components. Inspect and test door operations for proper function, including opening/closing cycles, obstacle detection, interlocks, and emergency release mechanisms. Adjust, align, lubricate, and replace worn or defective parts such as, motors, guides, rollers, seals, limit switches, and control module Utilise diagnostic tools and technical manuals to identify root causes of door system malfunctions. Interpret electrical schematics and mechanical drawings to aid in fault finding. Document findings accurately and propose effective repair solutions. Execute repairs, component replacements, and minor overhauls of door system assemblies. Adhere to established maintenance procedures, safety protocols, and quality standards during all repair activities. Use hand tools, power tools, and specialized equipment safely and proficiently. Perform functional tests and adjust door systems to ensure compliance with operational specifications post-maintenance or repair. Participate in commissioning activities for new and modified rolling stock, specifically focusing on door system performance. Maintain accurate and timely records of all activities, including work performed, parts used, and time taken. Prepare feedback reports on system performance, recurring issues, and recommended improvements. Selection Criteria Essential: Trade qualification in Mechanical Fitter, Automotive Mechanic, Aircraft Mechanic, or equivalent relevant mechanical discipline. Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in mechanical maintenance, with a strong preference for experience within the rail, automotive, aviation, or heavy machinery industries. Demonstrated experience in the fault finding, repair, and maintenance of complex electro-mechanical and/or pneumatic systems. Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, schematics, and maintenance manuals. Proficiency in using a variety of hand tools, power tools, and diagnostic equipment. Strong understanding of safety procedures and practices in a heavy industrial or rail environment. Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail. Good written and verbal communication skills. A bility to work independently and as part of a team. Willingness to work shifts, including nights and weekends, as required. Desirable: Previous experience specifically with passenger door systems on rolling stock (trains, trams, metro). Experience with Hyundai Rotem rolling stock or similar modern train sets.
