Your New Role As a Detention Service Officer in Cairns, you will maintain safety, security, and order within detention centres, ensuring the dignity and wellbeing of staff and detainees. This is a permanent, full-time opportunity with training commencing in August 2025 in Darwin. You’ll work alongside a team of professionals to: Foster a safe and respectful environment by engaging directly with detainees and reporting any concerns about abuse, impropriety, or health and wellbeing. Ensure the centre operates smoothly, rotating across posts and assisting in high-priority areas to support staff and detainee safety. Conduct screening and monitoring, including searches, security checks, and use of CCTV and alarm systems. Respond to emergencies, follow critical incident protocols, and document all incidents and interactions in alignment with the Case Management Framework. Perform headcounts, conduct welfare checks, and complete daily reports with accuracy and professionalism.
