Primary objective Provide high-level professional support to School Operations and assist with the provision of school operational advice, manage issues and projects related to schools. Context statement School Operations provides operational advice and services to government schools, tailored to their needs and focused on supporting their improvement agenda. School Operations ensures the implementation of NT and Commonwealth Government policies and department strategic priorities in NT Government schools The position works within a small collaborative team based in Darwin that supports all regions and contributes to the priorities and strategic direction of the Department of Education across the NT. Key duties and responsibilities 1. Provide high-level strategic and operational support, manage projects associated with school operational matters and participate in policy development. 2. Provide advice and support to schools on operational matters including new policies and procedures. 3. Liaise with and provide high-level advice to senior members of the department, the Minister’s office, other public sector agencies, the NT school community and the general public. 4. Assist with the provision of an effective response to issues raised by the community in relation to schools. 5. Research and prepare high-level reports and correspondence including Chief Executive and Ministerial correspondence and newsflashes to ensure that high-quality and timely information is provided. 6. Other duties as delegated by line management. Selection criteria Essential 1. Proven ability to research and analyse complex data prepare briefings including reports and ministerial correspondence, and present detailed information clearly and in plain English. 2. Demonstrated high level communication skills, political astuteness, tactfulness and the ability to manage issues of a sensitive and confidential nature 1. The ability to build and maintain effective networks both orally and including an ability to write for diverse audiences comprising of a range of internal and external stakeholders from diverse cultures. 2. Experience in project management and in the development, communication and implementation of policy and procedures. 3. High level of self-management, motivation and integrity with proven capacity to manage pressure, work on concurrent projects, meet critical deadlines while maintaining quality standards, and a willingness to actively participate in a dynamic and committed team. Desirable 1. A broad knowledge of Department of Education and Training policies and operations of NTG schools.
