About the role The WHS Leader will drive the management, review, and continuous improvement of Council’s WHS management system. This role will provide expert advice, coaching, and education to leaders and staff to ensure compliance with WHS legislation and promote a positive safety culture. Benefits Relocation support provided by the council Council-provided accommodation Vehicle for private use RDO option available Opportunity to work from multiple Council offices, with the main office located in Queenstown Duties Manage and update the WHS management system, policies, and procedures Analyse WHS data to drive continuous improvement Deliver tailored WHS training and coaching to leaders and staff Lead incident investigations and risk mitigation diverse WHS challenges across manual handling, chemical use, outdoor, and operational environments. Administer incident reporting via RiskTech Support WHS committees and ensure regulatory compliance Skills & experience Certificate IV in WHS and ICAM Lead Investigator Accreditation (or equivalent) 5 - 6 years experience leading WHS in complex, high-risk workplaces Strong knowledge of WHS legislation, risk management, and incident investigation Excellent communication and consultation skills, especially with staff of varying literacy levels Proven ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships Must hold a Tasmanian Driver’s Licence prior to appointment How to apply Join West Coast Council and make your mark on workplace health and safety !
