The Role The Cloud Engineer will play a pivotal role in architecting, building, and maintaining robust, scalable, and secure cloud infrastructure to empower our technology platforms. As a champion of reliability and operational excellence, you will manage the provisioning, automation, and optimisation of cloud environments, ensuring seamless integration and support for backend, frontend, and additional cloud-based workloads such as data and analytics. As a member of a newly formed Engineering team, you will be integral to the delivery and evolution of a cloud-native data warehouse and related services, supporting the infrastructure needs of future AI/ML applications. You will design and implement resilient cloud architectures, enabling efficient data pipelines and facilitating secure, scalable interactions across various digital assets. Additionally, the Cloud Engineer will drive innovation and continuous improvement, delivering resilient, maintainable infrastructure solutions that underpin the NGS digital ecosystem. What you’ll do: Design robust, scalable, and secure cloud architectures for application and data workloads. Manage the cloud network including routes, firewalls, key management, IPs, Domains and certificates, DNS. Deploy and configure infrastructure components (such as networking, storage, compute, databases, and serverless) using Infrastructure as Code tools. Automate deployment processes using CI/CD pipelines for consistent and efficient code delivery across multiple environments. Maintain documentation for architectural designs, operational procedures, playbooks and cloud best practices. Write and execute unit, integration, and system tests to validate reliability, performance, and security of cloud solutions. Monitor cloud environments and application health using logging, metrics, and alerting tools to ensure optimal performance and uptime. Work closely with the broader technology team and other stakeholders to support application lifecycle management, data development and assist in broader technical collaborations Ensure the security, compliance, and resilience of cloud environments through best-practice governance, proactive risk management, access control, security hardening and automation across the software and infrastructure lifecycle Stay current with evolving cloud technologies and recommend improvements or new approaches where appropriate Provide support to the Back End Engineer About you A dedicated Cloud professional, you will bring the following key skills: Proven professional experience as a cloud engineer with extensive hands-on experience with AWS services. Demonstrated ability to monitor, optimise, and troubleshoot using cloud-native tools. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a proactive approach to incident resolution and continuous improvement Sound networking knowledge, including the use of transit gateways, network peering, access controls and firewall configurations Strong understanding of shared responsibility model and best security practices to protect data and infrastructure. Well versed in disaster recovery strategies and implementation to ensure business continuity. Great communication skills and stakeholder engagement, with the ability to translate technical jargon to non-technical audiences. Strong documentation skills, ensuring structured and consistent creation, maintenance and storage of technical records.
