The legal team plays a critical role in supporting growth, ensuring regulatory alignment, and safeguarding brand equity. About the Role This newly created position will join a high-performing in-house legal function and report to the Senior Legal Counsel – Intellectual Property. The role focuses on managing intellectual property strategy, trademark portfolios, and legal input on brand, marketing, and innovation initiatives. It offers a high level of autonomy and visibility across the business. You will support both local and international IP matters, coordinating with commercial, regulatory, R&D and marketing teams, as well as with external advisers and IP authorities. Key Responsibilities Manage Australian and international trademark portfolios, including clearance, filing, prosecution, and enforcement. Advise on brand protection, marketing campaigns, packaging and advertising review. Support resolution of IP disputes, oppositions and enforcement actions. Draft and negotiate IP-related agreements including licences, co-branding and marketing arrangements. Coordinate with regulatory and product teams to ensure legal compliance across labelling and consumer representations. Provide internal guidance and training on IP usage and risk. Maintain oversight of emerging legal issues in IP, consumer protection, and marketing law. Contribute to broader legal strategy on brand expansion and new market entry. Candidate Profile 3–4 years’ post-qualification experience in intellectual property, gained in private practice or an in-house team. Strong working knowledge of trademark law, enforcement, and portfolio strategy. Experience advising on marketing, brand development, or regulated consumer products. Demonstrated ability to manage complex IP issues across multiple jurisdictions. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with a practical and solutions-oriented mindset. Comfortable working cross-functionally and in fast-paced commercial environments. Australian legal qualifications; Trade Marks Attorney registration is advantageous but not essential.
