You will lead the BSS Engineering teams at Optus, with a core focus on building in-house capabilities (Co-development) and reducing vendor dependencies. You will also be involved with application and platform support and enabling cross-functional delivery across BSS applications and the Tribe. The role is a critical leadership position responsible for driving engineering excellence, people development, stakeholder engagement, and sustainable platform operations. Ready to reimagine your career at Optus? Lead the end-to-end software development lifecycle for key BSS applications including Billing, Customer Care, and supporting systems. Enable the shift to modern engineering practices, including automation, observability, self-service tooling, and GitOps-based delivery. Oversee the end-to-end delivery of platform engineering activities, ensuring quality, scalability, security, and performance across all deployments. Lead the design, development, and support of theBilling and Customer Care (BCC) system and other BSS applications. Build and maintain strong relationships with Product, Architecture, Infrastructure, Security, and cross-tribe teams to ensure alignment, shared priorities, and timely decision-making. Drive software engineering governance with clear standards on code quality, design patterns, automation, and security compliance. What makes you a great fit? Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Statistics, Mathematics, Information Systems, or equivalent practical experience. Proven leadership in managing complex products, capability development, and cross-functional teams. Deep technical expertise in enterprise-scale AWS environments, including cloud-native, serverless, Kubernetes, microservices, and cloud security. Strong understanding of IT risk, security best practices, and defence-in-depth principles. Skilled in budgeting, planning, forecasting, and vendor/contract management. Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement, including with C-level executives. Agile champion with hands-on experience in Agile methodologies and cultural transformation. Customer-focused, results-driven, and known for strategic thinking and critical problem-solving. The good stuff … 3 days in the office, 2 days remote – with flexible hours to suit!
