About the opportunity Westgold Resources is seeking experienced Alternate Underground Managers to join our growing team. Due to our recent merger and increased operational opportunities, we are looking for an Alternate Underground Manager on a permanent 8:6 roster based at our CGO: Big Bell Operation. As a critical part of our site operations team, the Alternate Underground Manager’s purpose is to promote a positive safety culture and productivity targets. This role requires the successful candidate to hold a statutory position as required by the Western Australian Mines Regulations and therefore makes them responsible for the day-to-day operation of the underground mine. This is an 8/6 role FIFO from Perth. Since commercial production was declared in FY22, the Big Bell mine has consistently produced above its designed capacity of 800-900ktpa. In FY23, Big Bell continued to expand, producing 1.13Mt of ore at 2.6g/t. In November 2023, the Board approved expansion of Big Bell to the zone beneath the existing sub level cave using an open stoping with paste fill mining method. This zone is expected to extend the overall mine life of Big Bell to more than 16 years while simultaneously increasing the mined grade. The Fender underground mine, which was paused in early FY23, recommenced in October 2023, providing additional feed to the Tuckabianna processing hub. This mine operates as an extension to the Big Bell mine given its close proximity and ability to leverage Big Bell infrastructure. The role includes Championing a strong safety culture and ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements Providing visible safety leadership and drive productivity improvement initiatives Coordinating mining engineering activities with production teams, surveyors, geologists, drill and blast and mining teams Mentoring, training and developing members of the Technical Services team Identifying opportunities for continuous improvement Managing underground and surface projects Providing leadership to mining engineers and other staff in their day-to-day activities Overseeing daily underground mining operations, including production, cost control, and quality assurance Supporting the Underground Manager in providing statutory supervisor of underground operations when they are offsite Providing supervision and guidance to our in-house operational mining teams & external contractors to ensure performance and compliance to regulations What do I need? Bachelor's Degree in Mining Engineering or related field 7 years of experience working at underground mining operations.
