The role MidCoast Council's Land Use Planning team works closely with Council, our community, development industry and government agencies to deliver sustainable land use planning controls for our region. The Senior Land Use Planner is an exciting leadership opportunity within the Land Use Planning team, calling for confident direction and the ability to bring people together around shared goals. You’ll support, guide and develop staff while contributing to a collaborative, high-performing team culture. This position supports the development and implementation of the Local Environmental Plan, Development Control Plan and Development Contribution Plan. The role is also responsible for the management of the Urban Release Area Program to ensure land is rezoned in a timely and coordinated manner. Specialist knowledge and strategic vision will be integral in presenting strategic planning issues to internal departments, Councillors, community, and the NSW Department Planning, Housing and Infrastructure. Key Responsibilities Lead and support staff performance and development, fostering a collaborative and solutions-focused team culture Provide technical expertise in the delivery of complex planning projects and strategic land use initiatives Manage project timelines, budgets, consultant deliverables and stakeholder engagement activities Represent Council in high-level discussions with the community, developers, and government agencies Balance community expectations, staffing and resourcing and legislative requirements in a politically sensitive environment What you'll bring You will bring a strong foundation in urban and regional planning, underpinned by sound knowledge of the Environmental Planning and Assessment Act and related legislation. You’ll have demonstrated experience delivering planning outcomes in local government or a similar environment, and a hands-on approach to project delivery. Your leadership style is confident and inclusive—you motivate teams, build capability and bring clarity to complex challenges. Salary: Salary range $108,000 - $120,000 p.a. plus superannuation (negotiable based on skills and experience). A vehicle arrangement will be made with the successful candidate for this role. Council will provide you with a leaseback vehicle for an annual fee calculated as 20% of the gross purchase price. This is a fully maintained vehicle for both business and full private use with no additional expenses in normal use.
