This family-owned and operated pastoral business is seeking an experienced and passionate Station Hand to help manage the operation with a substantial focus on prime lamb breeding across 4,000 ewes. This holistically run and highly sustainable property comprises 3,500 hectares and has been extensively developed with modern handling facilities. The property offers a mix of farming, including cropping and livestock, enabling you to gain valuable experience in both areas. The owners support and encourage on-the-job training and are happy to fund external courses to help maintain your passion and advance your skill set. The Role The position will require the successful applicant to assist with and undertake all property management and livestock husbandry areas. To maximise production, you will be passionate about and willing to develop your skills and knowledge with Dorper genetics, livestock management, feeding regimes, and grazing techniques. An essential part of your role will be assisting and implementing breeding programs, concentrating on the required traits and data recording. The cropping is outsourced and share-farmed; however, you will be required to assist in this area at times. Reporting to the owners, your duties include fencing and yard repairs, maintenance, and installation tasks. Livestock management will be at the forefront, with responsibilities that involve mustering, vaccinating, administering animal treatments, lamb marking, and livestock feeding. You will also be involved in activities related to infrastructure development. Additionally, your role will require attention to detail in performing general property maintenance duties, including the upkeep of livestock water systems. The Ideal Candidate Preferably, you will have some previous agricultural experience, particularly with sheep. It is also desirable to have the following attributes: Previous experience in the sheep livestock industry. Team of working dogs (or willingness to obtain). Low-stress stockhandling skills. General farm knowledge and skills. Mechanical aptitude. Experience or willingness to learn software systems. A passion for sustainable Agriculture with a willingness to learn. Strong communication skills. Cropping knowledge (not essential).
