About the role This position is suitable for a new graduate. We are seeking an Occupational Health and Safety professional to provide quality professional consulting services to a range of clients in the fields of property risk management, environmental and occupational health & safety. Key Responsibilities Reporting to the Principal Hazardous Material Consultant and the Occupational Health and Safety Adviser. Conducting surveys of commercial, industrial and residential facilities for a range of hazardous building materials including asbestos, SMF, lead-based paint systems and PCB containing components. Preparing qualitative risk assessments and developing hazard control strategies for hazardous materials. Preparing technical specifications and tender documentation for hazardous materials abatement projects. Preparing detailed scientific/technical reports for each of the above-mentioned activities. Conducting air monitoring for asbestos and SMF. Analysing building materials and soil samples for asbestos fibres by Polarised Light Microscopy supplemented with Dispersion Staining. Obtain / Maintain NATA Accreditation (Identifier and Signatory). Maintain satisfactory Asbestos Identification Program (PTA) results to maintain NATA accreditation. Assisting with laboratory maintenance functions and quality assurance programmes. Participate in, and successfully complete Intra-Laboratory QA samples. Reviewing and developing a working knowledge of, and keep up to date with the current WHS legislation, Codes of Practice, journals articles, etc. Communicating with clients via telephone, site meetings, presentation of reports, etc. Undertaking other in-house administrative duties relevant to the position. Collaborating with environmental and occupational hygiene departments as required. Key Skills An understanding of the uses and applications of hazardous building materials, particularly asbestos-containing materials. Highly developed report preparation, written and personal communication skills. Understanding of risk assessment and management. Practical and innovative approach to problem solving. Ability to research scientific and engineering problems, and to compile and analyse information from a variety of sources. Well-developed personal organisational and time management skills. Computer literacy in MS Office & Excel To be successful you will need to demonstrate: Bachelor of higher qualification in health and safety required Must have 1- 2 years work experience in the position Comprehensive knowledge of: the principles of occupational hygiene and assessment of workplace hazards, industrial processes, equipment, and materials used in the workplace; toxicological effects of chemicals and other occupational hazards; relationship between working conditions and health; fundamentals of chemistry, mathematics, physics, and engineering; instrumentation and sampling equipment for conducting occupational hygiene investigations / assessments; occupational health standards, codes, and regulations. An understanding of the uses and applications of hazardous building materials, particularly asbestos-containing materials. Highly developed report preparation, written and personal communication skills. The ability to prepare clear, concise, accurate, investigative, and narrative reports. Well-developed personal organisational and time management skills. Computer literacy in MS Office & Excel.
