The key duties of the position include The Role Under broad guidance, duties of the Applied Specialist - Propulsion System Design will include: Have deep expertise in current and emerging rocket motor and weapon propulsion technologies; Undertake S&T to develop, verify and validate the design principles of identified rocket motor and weapon propulsion technologies directly supporting MSP Group projects across HSW, LRPF and GWEO; Translate conceptual models and performance outputs generated by other parts of the MSP STC into engineering ready products; Lead activities to support the development of authoritative high fidelity performance prediction model for rocket motor and weapon propulsion interior ballistics; Liaise and team with domestic and international industry to facilitate transition of propulsion system designs into representative prototype articles and support technology transition into Industry Conduct S&T in the referenced areas and communicate the outputs to both internal and external stakeholders. The Workplace Environment will include: Computer Use; Sitting at desk; Lifting 0-15kg; Bending, squatting, reaching; Distance walking (i.e. large building or inter-building transit). About our Team Missile & Space Propulsion (MSP) Group undertakes S&T to identify, assess and then develop novel propulsion systems to deliver step changes in performance for future missile systems, via allied international co-development, and in conjunction with an extensive network of AUS Industry and academic partners. The MSP STC capability is employed ensuring the safe and reliable deployment of the ADF's guided weapon inventory. The group has an end-to-end capability encapsulating: Advanced propulsion system concept development; Propulsion system utility assessments; Theoretical design and optimisation; Materials development & characterisation (both inert and energetic); Through to sub-system development, integration and testing. MSP STC sits at the intersection of each of the GWEO Enterprise, High Speed Weapons and Long Range Precision Fires (all DSR priorities) and is an outcome driven group that operates in a high tempo environment. The group has a key emphasis on transitioning its S&T into Industry to deliver Defence capability options.
