About RNA Australia Established in March 2023 as a joint initiative between the NSW Government and five leading university partners, RNA Australia’s mission is to foster a sustainable, world-class RNA research, development, and commercialisation ecosystem in Australia. A cornerstone of this mission is the development of a state-of-the-art RNA Research and Pilot Manufacturing Facility at Macquarie University. This will be the first facility of its kind in Australia, offering specialised capabilities to produce RNA therapeutics and delivery technologies for clinical trials and early commercial use, representing a significant advancement in Australia’s sovereign biomanufacturing capacity. About the Role The Project Director is a newly created position responsible for overseeing the successful delivery of the RNA Research and Pilot Manufacturing Facility. In collaboration with the appointed facility operator, you will ensure the project is delivered on time, within scope, and to the highest standard. In addition to overseeing the facility’s development, you will lead a range of strategic initiatives that contribute to RNA Australia’s broader mission of fostering a strong and sustainable RNA research and commercialisation ecosystem. You will be expected to engage and collaborate with a wide network of stakeholders, including government departments, academic institutions and industry partners. Key Responsibilities: Oversee the delivery of the RNA manufacturing facility in partnership with the appointed operator Coordinate strategic projects aligned with RNA Australia's objectives Act as a key liaison across internal and external stakeholders to drive engagement and alignment Monitor compliance with funding agreements, regulations, and internal policies Prepare reports, briefings, and high-quality documentation for both internal and external use Support engagement activities such as workshops, forums, and industry briefings Identify operational needs and recommend improvements through partnerships, capability building, or systems enhancements Foster a collaborative, agile environment where flexibility and initiative are highly valued This role is a rare opportunity to work at the forefront of RNA science and contribute to a national initiative with long-term impact. Ideal Profile You will bring a tertiary qualification in biotechnology, life sciences, business, project management, or a related discipline, and have at least five years’ experience in a similar role within the biotechnology, life sciences, or public health sectors. Your background will include success in leading or coordinating major projects, ideally involving cross-sector collaboration. Strong interpersonal and communication skills are essential, as is the ability to engage and influence a wide range of stakeholders, from researchers to senior government officials. You will also be confident in preparing documentation for strategic and operational purposes, and comfortable managing diverse priorities in a dynamic environment.
