About the Role The Health and Safety Coordinator is responsible for implementing Health and Safety programs, compliance with our programs, and continuous improvement initiatives across our expansive manufacturing facilities. This role calls for an astute professional with an intricate understanding of Safety Management Systems, employer safety regulations and obligations, and local, state, and national legislation. The ideal candidate will drive continuous improvement in our practices, and a commitment to nurturing a safety-oriented culture. Collaborating seamlessly with diverse departments, the Health and Safety Coordinator will pinpoint potential risks, devise mitigation strategies, and be our subject champion for health and safety. Key Areas of Responsibility • Manage and maintain effective policies, procedures, and programs aligned with regulatory requirements and industry best practices. • Conduct regular safety audits, inspections, and risk assessments to identify potential hazards and ensure compliance with relevant safety standards. • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify and address safety concerns, recommending and implementing corrective actions as needed. • Lead incident investigations, analysing root causes, and developing strategies to prevent future occurrences. • Develop and deliver safety training programs for employees, ensuring a comprehensive understanding of safety protocols and procedures. • Monitor and report on key safety performance indicators, identifying trends and areas for improvement. • Liaise with regulatory agencies, ensuring compliance with local, state, and federal health, safety, and environmental regulations. • Manage the administration of safety documentation, records, and reporting requirements. • Foster a proactive safety culture by organising safety campaigns, workshops, and awareness programs. • Collaborate with external partners, suppliers, and contractors to ensure their compliance with our HSE standards. • Stay up to date with industry trends, best practices, and regulatory changes related to health and safety matters. What we're looking for • Qualifications in Environmental Science, Engineering, Chemistry, or related fields highly desirable. • Proven experience of a minimum of 3 years in environmental compliance, preferably in a chemical manufacturing environment. • Regulatory Expertise : Thorough understanding of Australian regulations on chemical plants, including waste management, air and water quality standards, hazardous materials handling, and pollution control. • Proficiency in Health and Safety legislation : Solid knowledge of health and safety regulations, and a comprehensive grasp of local, state, and national legal frameworks with proven track record of driving successful Health and Safety initiatives within manufacturing or industrial settings. • Risk Proficiency : Skilful in conducting comprehensive risk assessments, and identifying potential hazards in chemical manufacturing processes. • International Management Systems : Profound understanding of International Management Systems and systems aligned with international standards like ISO 14001. • Chemical Safety Acumen : Knowledgeable about chemical safety protocols ensuring secure handling, storage, and disposal of hazardous materials. • Effective Communication : Strong verbal and written communication abilities to liaise adeptly with regulatory bodies, internal teams, and external stakeholders. Clear communication facilitates explaining regulations, incident reporting, and proposing improvements. • Problem-solving skills : Resourceful problem-solving aptitude to promptly address environmental compliance issues, formulate corrective actions, and implement preventive strategies.
