About the Office The National School of Arts and Sciences is one of two national schools in the Faculty of Arts, Sciences, Law and Business. The National School is based on two distinct campuses in Fremantle and Sydney. The School of Arts and Sciences delivers a practical, ethical and industry-focused education in diverse areas of study such as the liberal arts, communications and media, counselling and science, with a range of undergraduate and postgraduate programs on offer. About the role This position works in collaboration with academic and professional colleagues to provide effective and efficient laboratory support for students in the School of Arts and Sciences. The position requires provision of flexible and dedicated support for courses taught by the School, including maintaining Science facilities and equipment, sourcing and preparing materials for practical classes, maintaining stock, managing equipment purchases, repairs and replacement and providing support to teachers and student s. The position will report to the Program Co-ordinator (Science). Key Responsibilities Prepare, set up and pack down the laboratory/teaching space and classroom materials to support learning and teaching activities in the School of Arts and Sciences. Assist with the coordination, organisation and preparation of resources required for learning and teaching activities. Liaise with external agencies and suppliers to procure the relevant materials and equipment by utilising the university financial system. Monitor stock in the laboratory and coordinate purchasing for the school. Provide routine technical advice, support and instruction for learning and teaching activities, including the early testing of activities. Assist in the conduct of experiments, practical classes and provide field support. Conduct routine maintenance, servicing and calibration of equipment/workspaces and oversee equipment loans to students. Ensure laboratory safety, contribute to the maintenance and where required, establishment of safety procedures, this may include storing and managing materials as per guidelines, undertaking risk assessments, reporting outcomes and escalating any concerns/queries as required Qualifications, skills & experience Completion of a diploma level qualification with relevant work-related experience, or an equivalent combination of qualification and experience. Proven science laboratory experience in a busy, fluid environment, preferably supporting biological, chemical, and/or environmental sciences in tertiary or higher education sectors.
