Ohana College - Position Description Position title: Pastoral Care Coordinator Direct reports to the position: Principal Purpose of Position: Ohana College actively engages young people who haveprematurely disengaged from mainstream schooling or othereducational programs. The Pastoral Care Coordinatoraims to improve the behavioural outcomes for students throughquality support and intervention. Furthermore, the Pastoral CareCoordinator will oversee and support the management of studentwellbeing and behaviour across the college. The Pastoral CareCoordinator will provide an excellent role model for all staff throughsupporting and monitoring the learning and growth of effectiveteachers; and setting high and clear standards for students andstaff performance. Key Relationships: (Who are the key parties that this position interacts with?)Internal: ● Senior Management, Ohana staff and colleagues External: ● Community and external stakeholders● Parents/guardians● Dept of Education and Training, QCAA, ISQ KeyResponsibilities ● Support teaching staff to remove students from class andrelocate them to the R3 Room● Ensure schoolwork is prepared for students andcommunicated to parents for those who are bounced fromclass/school.● Ensure the R3 room is monitored and organised to promotepositive learning● Prompt communication and reporting to parents/guardiansand key stakeholders.● Develop engaging and effective teaching andlearning/behaviour management strategies to supportstudents with welfare and behaviour challenges● Develop and administer individualised intensive supportprograms designed to support the social emotional andbehavioural presentations of students.● Develop engaging programs and activities designed toencourage positive interactions and behaviours● Research best and current behaviour managementpractices, facilitate staff professional development, andmonitor the implementation of these practices at school.● Track student behaviour data effectively across all yearlevels● Lead retention team meetings to ensure behaviour matrix isbeing implemented consistently and accurately ● Provide and record NCCD evidence and adjustments usingappropriate tracking forms, evidenced stakeholdercommunication and individualised student plans.● Provide policy and research driven recommendations toteaching staff regarding behaviour management strategiesthat best support the diverse needs of students.● Lead and model exemplary behaviour management andprovide relevant staff professional development, includingstaff training upon induction.● Comply with research and recommend the improvement ofrelevant legislation and policy’s related to behaviourmanagement● Be able to work exceptionally in a team environment withYear Coordinators, Teachers, Psychologists, DeputyPrincipals, Principal● Demonstrate expert knowledge in supporting students withdisabilities● Support staff in the implementation and review of classroomadjustments and individualised learning plans● Responsibility for general discipline matters beyond themanagement of classroom teachers and year levelcoordinators● Contribute to the overall operational management of theschool● Support the retention of students into the Ohana Collegeonsite or DE programs.● Work within appropriate legislative frameworks andorganisational policy and procedures including following allmandatory reporting requirements.● Be aware of his/her skillset and be willing to seek help andadvice as required● Always uphold professional integrity, e.g. discretion,confidentiality, loyalty and trust MandatoryRequirements ● An extensive understanding of the issues facing youth at risk● Demonstrated ability to successfully engage young people inrelevant and dynamic learning● A demonstrated capacity to think and act strategically; toexercise sound judgement; and to support the principal inleading the mission of the school● Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of working withstudents with disabilities● Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of appropriatebehaviour management and relationship strategies within aspecial assistance school Miscellaneous ● Participate in professional development as required by the organisation● Any other tasks assigned which may be reasonablyrequested from time to time which contribute to the successof the organisation.Key Measurables: (How will successful performance be measured?) ● Compliance with all relevant aspects of the Education (Accreditation of Non-State Schools) Act, 2017 andregulation● Student feedback● Targets in relation to student achievement, enrolments,retention, behaviour and wellbeing● Successful completion of personal development plan forself and relevant staff.
