Northern Health provides healthcare to a population of over 580,000 people and in the Paediatric Department we care for general paediatric medical and neonatal patients.  The service includes: A very busy Paediatric Emergency Department that sees approximately 25,000 Paediatric patients per year with designated Paediatric emergency medicine consultant supervision. The Paediatric ED is accredited for PEM training and for acute training under RACP Advanced General Paediatric stream A Neonatal Unit with 21 cots, which provides high dependency neonatal care with a level five capability. There is always a neonatologist covering, and we manage TPN, chest drainage and ROP screening. There are more than 3,600 infants born annually by the obstetric service A Childrenâs Unit containing twenty-two beds (which includes two Paediatric Short Stay Unit beds) and caters for paediatric medical and paediatric surgical patients. Prior to COVID, there were 2 paediatric HDU beds located in the adult ICU  Northern Health is committed to medical education & training through the Teaching, Training & Research Precinct - a joint venture with The University of Melbourne, La Trobe University and the Victorian and Commonwealth Governments.  There are a mix of general Paediatric consultant and dual trained consultant neonatologists. Northern Health is an RACP accredited site for Advanced Paediatric Trainees under the General Paediatric and Community SAC.  This position is for an Advanced Trainee in General Paediatrics (preferably second- or third-year advanced trainee). This Chief Paediatric Registrar or Paediatric Fellow will have a mixture of leadership and administrative responsibilities in addition to clinical duties in inpatient and outpatient areas. The role would be an excellent stepping stone to independent practice. Consultant paediatrician support is available at all times. Northern Hospital is accredited with the RACP for advanced training in general paediatrics. This is a full-time position for 12 months. There is some flexibility to negotiate the roster.  Key Responsibilities: Inpatient and outpatient clinical responsibilities Supervision and support for junior medical staff, which consists of seven paediatric registrars, one senior resident (SRMO) and seven junior residents. Supervision of morning clinical handover Assistance with audit and quality activities Assistance with weekly educational meetings and morbidity & mortality meetings for general paediatrics (monthly) and neonatology (monthly) Organise the annual RACP Clinical Exams hosted at Northern Health Opportunities for research  To be successful in this role you will have: Medical registration with the Medical Board of Australia under the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) Enrolled into Advanced Training through RACP, through the General Paediatric or Community SAC  Next Steps . . .
