Job Description We’re looking for a seasoned Head of Engineering to take operational leadership of the Development function at Five Faces. Based in Brisbane, you’ll report directly to the Co-Founder & CTO and play a critical role in scaling our technology as we continue rapid growth across the healthcare sector and beyond. This is more than just a people management role—it's about owning delivery excellence. You’ll bring proven leadership in building high-performing engineering teams, establishing scalable systems and processes, and driving platform evolution across a SaaS environment. Experience in B2B SaaS and/or digital health is highly desirable. What you'll do: Lead, mentor, and grow a multidisciplinary engineering team working across Java back-end services, React front-end apps, and a small C# Windows player component. Be a hands-on leader: comfortable reviewing code, guiding architecture, and jumping in to unblock teams when needed. Own and continuously improve the end-to-end software development lifecycle— from planning to deployment — ensuring processes are clearly documented, repeatable, and adhered to. Establish and maintain systems and tools that enable Developers, QAs, BAs, and Project Managers to collaborate effectively and deliver high-quality solutions efficiently. Champion engineering excellence through strong Agile practices, DevOps automation, technical documentation, and quality assurance processes. Oversee delivery timelines, manage priorities across BAU, support, and project streams, and ensure SLAs and customer expectations are met. Collaborate closely with Product and Deliveryto align engineering output with business and customer priorities. Contribute to hiring, onboarding, and creating a culture of accountability, learning, and technical ownership. Work with the CTO to influence platform strategy and drive continuous innovation across digital health, patient What we’ll look for: We’re seeking an experienced technology leader who thrives in fast-growing environments and is passionate about making an impact in healthcare. Key Requirements: Proven experience leading and scaling engineering teams (10 people) in a SaaS or product-focused environment. Strong background in Java development and system design; comfortable engaging with code, PRs, and design discussions. Experience setting up and enforcing engineering processesthat support delivery, quality, and maintainability across cross-functional teams. Solid understanding of Agile and DevOps practices (e.g. CI/CD, automated testing, release pipelines). Skilled at managing stakeholder expectations and working with Product Owners, BAs, and PMs to translate business goals into technical execution. Comfortable in regulated or complex environments like healthcare, government, or enterprise systems. Bonus: Familiarity with HL7/FHIR, RESTful APIs, cloud architecture (AWS or Azure), and secure identity integration (MS Entra ID, OIDC/SAML).
