We are searching for an enthusiastic, fit, energetic, and experienced Assistant Manager to run the day-to-day operations on this scenic property near Merriwa, allowing the owner to focus on additional properties. The Employer: Our clients are a family-owned and operated mixed farming business, with properties near Merriwa and Inverell, with this role based on “Tullatula” (Aboriginal for Echidna), situated 15 kilometres Northeast of Merriwa, in the productive and picturesque Upper Hunter area of NSW. Covering some 3,900 Ha, currently carrying 2,000 Merino ewes for wool production and 600 Shorthorn breeding cows, with 250 Ha assigned for fodder crop production, finishing livestock on farm. The Role As the successful applicant, you will have sound knowledge of all facets of cattle and sheep production, particularly Merino’s, with a high level of competency mustering livestock on horseback in hilly terrain. Low-stress stock handling skills are a necessity, and a team of working sheep dogs essential to the success of the role. Exposure to fodder cropping and machinery operations with a moderate level of experience is ideal for assisting with the fodder production aspects of the business. Reporting to the owner, you will be friendly, reliable, trustworthy and have a genuine enthusiasm for improving and expanding a family farming business that welcomes your thoughts and ideas. Furthermore you will be responsible for the management and supervision of additional staff, so strong interpersonal skills and the ability to adapt are valuable. Experience with Agriwebb for record keeping and data collection skills are also an essential part of the role. The Ideal Candidate We are seeking an individual with advanced knowledge and experience with cattle and sheep, who has a mature approach to both work and life, and who is passionate about the agricultural industry and possesses the following: Effective communication skills allowing for an autonomous role Basic mechanical knowledge and use of modern machinery for tasks such as spraying, sowing and harvesting are ideal, but not a necessity General farming practical skills (welding, fencing, mustering, water reticulation development and maintenance, etc.) Reliable, trustworthy and hardworking personality traits 5-10 years’ experience in a Mixed Farming operation A skilled horse rider capable of farrier work Ability to monitor stock and crop health with attention to detail Driver’s License essential, HR truck license ideal Chemical User certificate and experience with weed control Working sheep dogs essential Ability to pregnancy test cattle would be advantageous Register your interest If you feel that you’re the right fit for this position, please submit an up-to-date resume along with the contact details of 3 references.
