The Opportunity We are seeking an experienced and innovative Chief Data Officer (CDO). This is a newly created, strategic role that will lead the creation of the University’s Enterprise Data function and unify all data under a single umbrella. Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer, the CDO will develop a comprehensive data and analytics strategy, consolidating platforms, tools, and teams across the organisation. You will be empowered to resolve inconsistencies and build a single source of truth, ensuring our data is used to inform outcomes, not just narratives. You will lead a multidisciplinary team and oversee the functions of Data Management, Analytics and Insights, Integration, and Data Platforms to transform the University’s institutional data into a strategic asset. A key part of this role is to guide University-wide initiatives on the utilisation and optimisation of artificial intelligence and to champion a culture where data informs outcomes and drives innovation. This position will be pivotal in enhancing decision-making, improving operational efficiency, and ensuring the University remains agile, transparent, and positioned to deliver on its strategic goals. About You We are seeking a transformational data leader, a proven executive capable of building and maturing a data-driven culture within a large, complex organisation. You are a strategic thinker with deep technical expertise, ready to establish the University's first enterprise-wide data function. You possess relevant tertiary qualifications and a demonstrated history of leveraging data not just for reporting, but for driving meaningful, measurable outcomes. You will bring: A proven ability to build and lead a sophisticated data function from the ground up, unifying disparate teams, platforms, and sources to create a single source of truth. The strategic vision to develop and execute an enterprise data and AI strategy, balanced with the technical credibility to guide teams in architecture, governance, and analytics. A proactive and solutions-oriented mindset , with a track record of translating complex data challenges into clear, actionable strategies that deliver tangible results. Exceptional stakeholder engagement and influencing skills , with the ability to act as a bridge between technical teams and senior leadership, building trust in data across the University. An inspiring and collaborative leadership style , with a passion for developing talent and empowering the entire University community through data literacy and access to actionable insights. Candidates should demonstrate high strategic acumen, a strong commitment to data ethics and stewardship, and the ability to identify and manage risks related to data privacy, security, and regulatory compliance.
