About the Job We are looking for an experienced & dedicated full-time Head Dog Trainer to lead the team and department at our Melbourne Pet Hotel located in Tullamarine, just 5 minutes from the Airport. Responsible for brand consistency, delivering all program offerings and maintaining operational standards within the Pet Hotel, the Head Dog Trainer is a key team member and leader, being accountable for consistent achievement of quality dog training outcomes whilst educating and engaging pet owners . As Head Dog Trainer you must be committed to, and show a genuine interest in, enhancing communication and teamwork between dogs and owners by offering positive solutions and rewarding success while providing a fun and safe environment. The role will provide owners with exceptional Dog Training instruction and customer service by acting as a subject matter expert for Hanrob’s Training Program and products and services – helping them strengthen their bond through fun and educational dog training. This role is responsible for the following: Behavioural modification for dogs in structured training programs. Managing and delivering quality outcomes for each of our training programs – Stay and Learn Programs, Home Dog Training, Group Classes, and Individual one-on-one sessions. Educating dog owners to successfully maintain our training schedule to ensure ongoing success in the home environment. Achieving budgeted Dog Training sales goals by driving sales. Building and maintaining client databases. Recording & documenting training plans and session notes. Mentoring, training and development of the senior dog trainer. Undertaking animal welfare duties associated with training dogs. Our dog training service is open 7 days per week, with rotating rosters, however you must be available for weekend shifts and school holidays. About You You will need to be a results-driven individual that can demonstrate prior success in the dog training industry and: Have minimum of 3-5 years’ experience as a professional dog trainer with experience working with families and individuals, across a range of fields in dog training. Have the skill to implement training strategies based on proven animal behaviour methodologies for individual dogs. Be highly motivated by providing solutions, dog training skills/techniques with superior customer service to dog owners. Be highly skilled to communicate to owners the benefit of training and acquire the dogs to participate in our training programs. Be flexible and respond well to demands on your time and work effectively without direct supervision . Be motivated by the opportunity to present your ideas and suggestions and are encouraged by the opportunity to work in a team environment . Demonstrate a positive, open-minded attitude . Have the ability to make objective decisions to achieve positive outcomes. Administration skills and experience to maintain records and team management. Demonstrate clear and concise communication skills . Have unrestricted work rights in Australia . Completed an Animal Training Qualification IMPORTANT: This is an active and physical role working across the Pet Hotel. In addition to basic administrative work, the incumbent will primarily be required to work indoors and outdoors (sometimes in inclement weather conditions), and hands on with dogs while being on their feet for a significant portion of their day. They must be able to sit, stand, walk, lift, carry, push, pull, bend, crouch, kneel, squat, reach, stretch, and restrain excited and sometimes unpredictable animals up to 50kg on leads. The incumbent must be able to communicate, speak, and interact with customers, internal and external stakeholders, and members of the public in person, over the phone, and online. This includes unsolicited cold-calling, up-selling training offers, attending pet expos and community events, as well as occasionally taking difficult conversations with customers and stakeholders to provide constructive feedback and receiving/responding to complaints, in order to perform the inherent requirements of the role.
