The Director of National Parks (the Director) is responsible for six national parks, the Australian National Botanic Gardens, 58 Australian Marine Parks and the Heard Island and McDonald Islands Marine Reserve established under the Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999. Parks Australia is the federal park agency that supports the Director, and they are a division of the Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water (the Department). We work to showcase these natural and cultural wonders to the world, demonstrating to all why these places are so special, and inspiring communities to become more invested in their care and future. The key duties of the position include Oversee business and financial management for the Branch, working closely with the Branch Head and Directors, and providing regular updates and reporting to the Branch leadership team. Coordinate the finance and business-related staff in the Branch to deliver effective, accurate, timely and compliant financial and business management, including supervision of expenditure, revenue and capital funds, ASL, contract management, and MOUs. Develop and contribute to business improvement strategies for the Branch and to strategic planning for longer-term initiatives that seek to improve the efficient and effective operation of the Branch. Work closely with Parks Australia and DCCEEW Finance teams, including the Parks Australia CFO and Deputy CFO to support budgeting, forecasting and financial management processes and reporting, and represent the Branch in finance discussions. Provide high-quality advice regarding financial status and budget tracking, and handle queries/forecasts between the Branch and Parks Australia & DCCEEW Finance. Be proactive in business management and financial activities such as budget forecasting and end of month/quarterly reviews and support the development of section and Branch operational plan budgets. Provide advice on the business and finance aspects of developing contractual agreements and MOUs, revenue options, cost recovery and/or business operating models, and maintain reconciliations for externally funded Branch projects.
