Due to ongoing growth we currently have an opportunities for Counsellor to join their team in Macksville. The Counsellor will provide high-quality, evidence-based counselling services to children aged 0–15 with a disability or developmental delay, and their families, within a multidisciplinary paediatric therapy clinic. This role involves working collaboratively with families, other allied health professionals and key stakeholders surrounding the child to support their emotional, social, and behavioural wellbeing. Key responsibilities: Deliver age-appropriate individual and group counselling to children and adolescents (0–15 years). Conduct psychosocial assessments and develop tailored therapy plans in collaboration with clients and their families. Monitor, evaluate and clearly define child goals to ensure service effectiveness and continuous improvements through regular review. Provide ongoing feedback through progress notes, reports, and discussion with families/carers in a timely and effective manner. Use a family-centered, client-centered and strengths-based approach to deliver high quality support to children with a developmental delay/disability. Ensure support to children and families is culturally responsive and reflective of the community in which they are a part. Use therapeutic approaches (such as play therapy, trauma-informed care, etc.). Engage and collaborate with parents/caregivers, providing guidance, psychoeducation, and strategies to support their child's emotional and behavioural needs. Consult and liaise with internal stake holders and other agencies who also work with this target group, to develop a comprehensive approach to service provision. Maintain electronic health records, documentation, and statistics according to policy. What we’re looking for: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Counselling, Social Work, Psychology, or related field. Current registration or eligibility for registration with a relevant professional body (e.g., ACA, PACFA, AASW, or AHPRA). Working with Children Check (WWCC) National Police Check Current CPR/First Aid Certification (or willingness to obtain) Current Driver’s license and ability to access own vehicle Demonstrated experience providing counselling to children and/or adolescents in a therapeutic setting. Strong understanding of child development, trauma, attachment, and family dynamics. Experience working with a range of emotional, behavioural, and mental health presentations (e.g. anxiety, depression, grief, adjustment difficulties). Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, particularly with young children and families. Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team. High level of cultural competence and ability to work effectively with diverse populations. Ability to implement effective caseload management strategies. Demonstrate the ability to collaborate with specialist therapeutic and child/family support agencies to assist children and families with more complex needs to develop and implement an individualised intervention plan.
