The Role Our clients operate a family-owned sheep and broadacre cropping station, irrigating 1,500 hectares of land with a rotation of summer crops (cotton and corn), winter cereals, and pastures. Additionally, they own a separate property consisting of 400 hectares, of which 100 hectares is sown to rice and is located closer to Deniliquin. Our clients are seeking a skilled and motivated individual to join their team as a Cropping 2IC. In this role, you will report to the farm manager and lead a team of 1 to 2 full-time employees, along with casuals during busier periods. You will be responsible for the day-to-day activities of producing summer and winter crops and pastures, including soil preparation, sowing, irrigation, spraying, harvesting, and maintaining all related equipment. A good understanding of irrigation systems, such as laterals and flood irrigation, is a bonus but not essential. Mechanical knowledge would be advantageous as well. Your responsibilities will also include performing plant and engine maintenance, operating tractors and machinery, and handling inventory reporting, among other tasks. You will have the opportunity to gain skills in irrigation systems and management. Effective communication with management, staff, and contractors is essential, as is consistent record-keeping and the ability to identify and report problems promptly. The Ideal Candidate The ideal candidate should demonstrate a strong sense of honesty, trustworthiness, and accountability for any mistakes, errors, or damage to property. Maintaining a pleasant tone when interacting with all stakeholders and actively participating in team meetings is essential. The candidate should also be able to seek advice when uncertain, build rapport with co-workers, collaborate to achieve shared goals, and effectively resolve conflicts. You will need excellent organisational and communication skills. This position is perfect for someone self-motivated, a self-starter, and works efficiently. The successful candidate should ideally hold a ChemCert Certification, possess a valid driver’s license, and have experience in broadacre cropping. Additionally, familiarity with farm management software (e.g., Agworld, SafeAg), mechanical knowledge, and welding experience are distinct advantages. Having an MC or HC license is desirable, but not essential.
