Job Description: Permanent part-time, 8 hours per week on Wednesdays Fitzroy location Friendly and dynamic team About the Role An opportunity currently exists for a Grade 2 Physiotherapist to join the physiotherapy department. The successful applicant will be responsible for providing high quality, overall physiotherapy management to the orthopaedic, plastics and rheumatology patients of the Fitzroy campus of St. Vincent’s Hospital Melbourne. The role is also responsible for supervision of students, Grade 1 staff, and Allied Health Assistants and taking a leadership role within the department and other duties as directed/delegated. Applications from current grade two physiotherapists or suitably experienced grade one physiotherapists will be considered. Relevant postgraduate qualifications would also be highly regarded. LOCAL WORK ENVIRONMENT This position is located at either the Fitzroy or Kew Campus of St Vincent’s Hospital Melbourne (SVHM), working in a designated clinical area; and will provide care for a diverse range of patients who are admitted under the units managed by the designated work area. St Vincent’s Hospital has four streams within the Physiotherapy Department: Musculoskeletal, Neurological and Pallative Care, Cardiorespiratory and Subacute. The focus of care aligned to this position will be dependent on the experience and interests of the suitable applicant. 4. POSITION PURPOSE Accountable to the Physiotherapy Manager and responsible to the designated Team Leader, this Grade 2 position is responsible for providing high quality, overall physiotherapy management to the patients on units managed by the designated work area. The candidate will be responsible for the supervision of physiotherapy students and junior physiotherapists. The candidate is also responsible for continuing quality improvement projects and other tasks as directed/delegated. Weekend, public holiday and on call work is also a potential requirement. 5. POSITION DUTIES The delivery of the highest standard of physiotherapy services to the patients at SVHM as directed: Provide appropriate clinical management for all patients on units managed by the designated work area as required Communicate assessment and treatment outcomes to nursing, medical and other Allied Health staff via documentation and ward rounds Advising on the care of patients in outlying wards when requested Participate in unit ward rounds/team meetings Ensure implementation of departmental policies and procedures Participate in Departmental and Organisational meetings, other meetings as required Actively participate in interdisciplinary team activities Organise and implement in-service training sessions for staff, the physiotherapy assistants, students and volunteers Appropriately teach and supervise physiotherapy students and provide regular feedback and documentation of the clinical placement required Appropriately manage & supervise the physiotherapy grade 1 staff and AHA in the allocated stream as required Ensure continuous Quality Improvement through high quality work practices Implement department quality improvement activities Assist with development of policies, procedures and guidelines in line with strategic directions for the department, allied health team and wider organization Active participation to ongoing education through in internal and external professional development and review of current literature 6.
