Girton Grammar School is seeking an experienced academic leader with a passion for student engagement to join our school community as the Head of Character and Culture in January 2026 . This is a three-year fixed-term Position of Responsibility and is supported by an ongoing underlying teaching position. About the Position The Head of Character and Culture at Girton Grammar School is a pivotal leadership position responsible for shaping the values, ethics, and community spirit of the school, with a particular focus on students in Years 7 to 12. This role involves providing strategic direction, nurturing positive relationships, and ensuring a high quality environment that fosters personal growth, leadership, and resilience. The Head of Character and Culture leads and mentors the Heads of House, promotes student well-being and exemplary behaviour, and collaborates with the Head of Student Engagement to enhance a rich, diverse, and balanced co-curricular program. This role is central to instilling a strong sense of belonging, respect, and community among students and staff, ensuring that the school's core values are embodied in daily practices. Key responsibilities include developing and implementing policies and strategies that foster ethical decision making and character development, while creating an inclusive and respectful school culture. Essential Qualifications and Key Selection Criteria Education: Bachelor’s degree in Education, a Master’s degree is preferred. Experience: Significant experience in a role focused on student engagement, pastoral care, or student services within an educational setting. Strong Work Ethic: Demonstrated commitment to achieving high standards of performance with the proven ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines consistently. Excellent Communication and Interpersonal Skills : Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to convey complex information clearly and effectively. Excellent Interpersonal Skills: Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport and collaborate effectively with colleagues, students, parents, and other stakeholders. Sound Judgement: Proven track record of using sound judgement to address and resolve issues in an informed and timely manner.
