Premier Cricket - Umpire Observers Expressions of Interest About the Role The WA Cricket, Cricket Operations Unit is searching for Expressions of Interest for Premier Cricket Umpire Observers for the 2025-26 Premier Cricket Season. Premier Cricket Umpire Observers will play an important part in the support, development and training of umpires in WA Premier Cricket for the 2025-26 season. Umpire Observers will be tasked with providing an independent observation of the umpires that they view, to ensure that the panel that ranks and appoints umpires to WA Premier Cricket have strong, validated, independent information to make accurate assessments of umpires. For the 2025-26 Premier Cricket season, the Cricket Operations Unit is seeking a panel of eight to 10 Umpire observers to conduct observations in consultation with the High-Performance Umpire Coordinator and the High-Performance Umpire Coach & Talent Specialist. Umpire Observers do not need to be former umpires, however, a strong understanding of role of the umpire within cricket is essential. The Observers will be expected to provide this information regularly throughout the season. Once selected onto the Umpires Observers Panel, Observers will be provided with training by WA Cricket on how to independently observe and assess umpire performance. From there, Observers may be called to meet occasionally throughout the season as required. Payment The Umpire Observers position comes with an honorarium ($500), if a minimum target of observations reached, plus a payment of $100 for each observation completed (minimum 2 hours observation, and where the observation is recorded with feedback against the umpire(s) in Match Official System). To qualify for the honorarium the Umpire Observer must attend all meetings scheduled by WA Cricket staff as requested. How to Apply Please submit an EOI of no greater than one page, which should indicate availability throughout the season, to Luke Douglas (Luke.Douglas@wacricket.com.au) prior to close of business, Friday 4th July 2025. EOI’s will be assessed, and selected observers will be notified after that date. Reapplying Observers do not need to submit an EOI, just confirm by writing that they wish to continue as an Observer. Questions Please contact Luke Douglas or James Hewitt (james.hewitt@wacricket.com.au) if you have any questions about the Umpire Observer roles. The Premier Cricket Umpire Observers Terms of Reference can be sent out to interested individuals upon request.
