Base salary will be in the range $66,262.71 - $72,935.83 17% Superannuation (HEW Level 3) Based at our picturesque St Lucia Campus About This Opportunity The University of Queensland is seeking a Gardener/Groundsperson to maintain high-quality outdoor spaces across a designated area of campus. You'll be responsible for general garden and turf maintenance, landscaping, and ensuring safe, tidy, and visually appealing grounds. UQ's longest-serving Grounds staff member dedicated over 40 years to maintaining and enhancing our campus landscapes, a testament to the pride and commitment shared across the team. Key responsibilities will include: Maintain the allocated area to a high standard of workmanship Undertake mowing, brush cutting, edging, weeding, fertilising, watering pruning, sweeping of pathways and gutters, with minimal disruption to campus users Collect and remove rubbish and debris Turf and/or seed worn or damaged turf areas Aerating and top dressing of lawns and control unwanted pests Undertake landscaping and garden refurbishment around new and old buildings including installing agricultural drains, placing rocks, installing micro-irrigation and mulch, installing tree guards, removing unwanted plants, cultivating soil and replanting Replace/Repair of irrigation components when required. Undertake routine and corrective maintenance on all manner of grounds maintenance equipment Ensure a safe work environment by completing log books, contributing to risk assessments and adhering to safe operating procedures Assist other staff members to complete the tasks as directed by Supervisor Grounds. This role will assist the Supervisor Grounds in reaching the section’s goals. Qualifications and training equivalent to a Level 3 Certificate in Horticulture; or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education/training Possession of a current open Queensland Driver’s Licence A commercial Operations Licence (chemicals) with an understanding of chemical calibration of equipment and application of chemicals Substantial experience in maintenance gardening with a genuine interest in plant identification and maintenance Proven ability to work with minimum supervision and in a team situation Experience in maintaining, fault-finding and repairing grounds maintenance equipment The ability to exercise tact and restraint in the face of unfair criticism is essential The ability to communicate/liaise with a large variety of people including University staff, students, consultants and visitors is extremely important The successful candidate may be required to complete a number of pre-employment checks, including: right to work in Australia.
