TSRA is on the lookout for a passionate individual with a science background and experience empowering First Nations communities and staff in natural resources management. The role offers a unique opportunity to join our award-winning Sea Team - part of our Environmental Program (Land and Sea Management Unit) dedicated to caring for land, sea and culture. Help us support the sustainability of marine species - specifically turtles - in line with local aspirations. Apply your technical expertise in turtle ecology and conservation in a culturally rich, community-driven context. Work closely with Elders, Traditional Owners, Rangers, scientists and government and non-government agencies to develop First Nations-led turtle monitoring and management practices across the region. With positive experience working alongside First Nations staff and communities, your legacy will include mentoring plus upskilling staff and community partners by building long-term capacity in turtle conservation and management. The key duties of the position include Key responsibilities include: Developing and designing sustainable community/ Ranger led marine turtle research and monitoring projects, including field planning, data collection, analysis, and reporting. Developing and maintaining a network of marine turtle experts to provide advice for long term sustainable management , network to include first nations and western science expertise. Providing technical advice and support to community-based Ranger groups in the delivery of turtle and other sea-related projects under the Land and Sea Management Strategy for the Torres Strait. Building capability within Ranger groups , identifying skills and training needs, and providing ongoing mentoring and coaching. Supporting Ranger program staff , in the implementation of marine management projects including work plan development, roadmaps and community aspirations. Strengthening relationships with RNTBCs, Local Government, State and Commonwealth agencies, and other stakeholders to embed sea turtle work into broader land and sea management activities. Supporting project management tasks such as budgeting, procurement, logistics, contract management, and funding submissions. Ensuring quality data collection and reporting , and supporting Rangers to implement monitoring and evaluation strategies. Drafting and contributing to a range of technical and administrative documents , including operational and strategic plans, reports, and communications to stakeholders. Contributing to the broader Land and Sea Management Unit (LSMU) through cross-program collaboration, policy and procedure development, and knowledge sharing. Building strong foundations for the team's continued success , ensuring that knowledge, systems, and partnerships developed over the 12 months can support enduring outcomes.
