The Role: An exciting opportunity exists for a Cardiology Interventional Fellow. Northern Health has the busiest emergency department in Victoria and services a large community. We perform over 650 percutaneous coronary interventions per year with a large proportion being acute presentations (NSTEMI / STEMI). Our team comprises of 10 interventionalists with significant experience across all forms of coronary intervention. This role is a full-time fellowship (1 EFT 76 hrs fn) for 12 months dedicated to all aspects of interventional cardiology training apart from structural heart intervention. The Fellow will be involved in complex cases including dedicated chronic total occlusion lists, bifurcation lesions and multivessel intervention. The successful candidate will obtain significant experience in all forms of coronary imaging - Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) and Intravascular Ultrasound (IVUS) as well as functional coronary assessment - Fractional Flow Reserve (FFR) analysis, Index of Microcirculatory Resistance (IMR) and Coronary flow reserve (CFR). Experience will be encouraged in all forms of coronary lesion preparation - Rotablator Atherectomy, Intravascular Lithotripsy (IVL) and Orbital Atherectomy. They will be part of Northern health’s commitment to the Victorian Cardiac Outcomes Registry (VCOR) and responsible for monthly PCI meetings and door to balloon time presentations for quality improvement. The Fellow will be encouraged to take an active part in the decision making process for revascularisation strategies in our twice monthly combined cardiology and cardiothoracic meetings. The Fellow will support education and training initiatives and be involved in Northern Hospital research week. The Cath lab service is closely affiliated with non-invasive Cardiology subspecialties of echocardiography, coronary CT and cardiac MRI. As a secondary focus, it will require provision of appropriate care to inpatients and outpatients of the Unit/Department and consultative service for patients of other units or departments. They also ensure supervision of the junior medical officers and provides support for the senior medical staff in the care of the Unit/Department’s patients. The position commences on 2 February 2026. To be successful in this role you will have: The successful applicant must be eligible for training in Interventional Cardiology in accordance with CSANZ guidelines. Applicants must be eligible for appropriate registration with APHRA. Must be a registered practitioner with AHPRA with appropriate training and experience in General Medicine. Must be Fellow of the RACP or hold equivalent recognised qualifications. At least 3 years advanced training in Cardiology at a recognized tertiary centre (as per the FRACP Specialist Advisory Committee for Cardiology 2005 guidelines). This is a 1-year program commitment. Must have a proven track record of excellence in clinical service delivery with a demonstrated commitment to continued improvement and team work. Must have a demonstrated and ongoing commitment to education of themselves, their colleagues, junior staff, other members of the team, and medical students. Must have a demonstrated and ongoing commitment to medical research, audit, QC and other activities that improve patient care. Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills that enable the development of professional relationships across a broad range of people. Valid working VISA if not an Australian resident.
