The key duties of the position include The Role The Acoustic Analyst is responsible for analysis of acoustic data predominantly sourced in the maritime environment. The signals relate specifically to sonar and underwater communications and are used to characterise Navy systems and platforms. Analysis is conducted using advanced software tools and characterised in custom databases. The incumbent will lead a small team of Navy and Air Force acoustic analysts, concentrating on bespoke areas of interest defined through the operational requirements. The position is based at the Australian Joint Acoustic Analysis Centre (AJAAC) at HMAS Albatross NOWRA NSW 2540. The position will report to the Commanding Officer AJAAC as part of Information Warfare Force, under Fleet Command. The duties of an APS 6 Intelligence Assessment Analyst occupation in Defence include the following: Prepare complex briefs and intelligence assessments related to Defence and national security issues. Responsible for interpreting and complying with legislative, policy and regulatory frameworks including information management requirements. Identify and undertake research and analysis on Defence and security-related developments of strategic interest to Australia. Understand and utilise analytical tools and techniques to develop Defence and national security-related intelligence assessments. Build and sustain strong interactive relationships and negotiate with customers and key stakeholders to deliver tailored intelligence assessments. Represent and advocate for Defence at conferences, seminars, briefings and meetings to support the Defence mission. Resolve problems using expertise, taking the initiative to identify and recommend alternative courses of action. Design and implement solutions to issues impacting on the achievement of desired outcomes. Accountable for accurate and timely completion of work, sharing own expertise with others and guiding and mentoring less experienced employees. Work collaboratively, operates as an effective team member and actively participates in organisational activities. This role is eligible for an additional remuneration benefit known in Defence as a Building Defence Capability Payment (BDCP).
