Position available for a specialist psychiatrist in Rural Mental Health Services. Work in a collegial, multidisciplinary team within a supportive framework of peer and operational supports. Lead and manage medical services in accordance with the standards of the specialty, professional ethics, and policies of THHS and Queensland Health, across hospital, community, and outreach settings. The Townsville HHS is the largest tertiary health service in northern Australia. The Adult Mental Health Service includes the Acute Care Team, the 36-bed Adult Acute Mental Health Inpatient Unit at The Townsville Hospital, the Homeless Health Outreach Team, and the Community Care Teams. Requirements Applicants should be registered (or eligible for registration) as a specialist with the Medical Board of Australia and be a Fellow of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists (FRANZCP) or an equivalent overseas-trained specialist who has completed training in the UK, Ireland, Canada, USA (ABPN), or New Zealand. The Medical Board of Australia has implemented a new expedited pathway to specialist registration from December 2024, which eliminates the need for a specialist assessment with a medical college for those with accepted qualifications in Psychiatry. Accepted qualifications include MRCPsych and a Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) after 2007. Now is an ideal time to apply for this role.
