We make it easy to compare flights, trains, buses, ferries, and driving routes - providing everything users need to discover, plan, and book their journey. Behind the scenes, we tackle complex routing challenges, process massive datasets, and optimise search performance to deliver fast, reliable results. We’re looking for a Lead Analytics Engineer to join our Melbourne-based team and lead the way in building a best-in-class analytics foundation. In this role, you’ll be a hands-on technical leader, responsible for designing the data models and infrastructure that power decision-making, experimentation, and insight across Rome2Rio. You’ll work at the intersection of data modelling, platform engineering, and business enablement—creating a scalable, reliable, and trusted analytics environment. Collaborating closely with our Data Platform, Engineering, and Data Science teams—as well as our central data group—you’ll help align tools, architecture, and strategy across the organisation. What you’ll do Architect and maintain high-quality, scalable analytics data models using dbt in BigQuery. Lead the implementation and strategic buildout of Looker and the semantic layer, while driving end-to-end metrics standardization from data models to dashboards. Own the ingestion, modelling, and reliability of clickstream data (e.g., Snowplow). Collaborate with Data Platform and Engineering to optimise data pipelines and reduce latency or duplication. Partner with Data Science to develop reusable, production-grade datasets that support experimentation. Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines, testing coverage, and documentation for analytics codebases. Monitor and optimise query performance for cost and responsiveness. Mentor teammates and champion best practices in analytics engineering and data enablement. What We’re Looking For 5 years in Analytics Engineering or BI Engineering, with strong individual contributor impact. Expert in SQL, dbt, and cloud data warehouses—ideally BigQuery. Experience working with clickstream data sources, especially Snowplow. Proven success implementing and managing Looker, including semantic layer design. Strong understanding of ELT architecture, data quality frameworks, and orchestration tools like Airflow. Excellent collaboration and communication skills across technical teams. Nice-to-haves: Familiarity with C# and backend event schema design. Experience with GCP services such as Composer, Dataform, and Cloud Functions. Background in travel tech or consumer-facing platforms. Experience balancing query cost vs. performance in BigQuery environments. Why Join Us?
