MSF Australia's Medical Unit The Medical Unit operates within the Medical Department of OCP (Operational Centre Paris), under the oversight of the MSF Sydney Executive Director and reports functionally to the MSF OCP Medical Director. It supports and offers expertise in Women’s and Children's Health and care for survivors of Sexual Violence, serving as a link to Operations for MSF Australia’s Communications, Fundraising, and Human Resources departments. Recent Evaluations and Future Vision In 2023, MSF evaluated both the New York and Sydney Medical Units to assess their potential future impact over the next 5-10 years. Benefits Flexible & hybrid working arrangements Salary packaging benefits Employee Assistance Program Wellness classes Additional leave Monthly afternoons off Responsibilities This impactful 7-month parental leave contract includes three main accountabilities: Domestic Responsibilities As part of the MSF Australia Executive Leadership Team, reporting to the Executive Director Australia, you will provide strategic guidance on policy, planning, budgets, and project management for the Sydney Medical Unit. International Responsibilities Under the hierarchy of the medical director or delegate, you will manage and provide clinical guidance to a team of 10 Medical Advisors and Coordination staff. Your role will include: Co-creating medico-operational policies and strategic plans Providing context-appropriate medical support Enhancing quality of care and medical ethics Conducting operational research and exploring new medical approaches Advocating based on field needs and research findings Participating in training development and facilitation Fostering links between MSF and the medical community This role involves shaping the future vision of the Sydney MU by proposing new models and integrating domestic and international responsibilities for optimal outcomes. Minimum Requirements To succeed, you should be recognized for negotiation skills, proactive approach, and pragmatic mindset. A well-established network in the Australian Public Health sector is advantageous. Ideally, you will have: At least 2 years of MSF field experience, plus Coordination or HQ experience Leadership in medical strategies, research, or publications Experience managing complex projects and cross-cultural teams Excellent communication skills in English (C2 level) and good French Willingness to work outside standard hours and travel as needed Qualifications as Nurse, Medical Doctor, or related health field; candidates from non-clinical backgrounds with strong leadership may also be considered Operational research management experience is desirable Application Process Applications will be reviewed upon receipt, with an aim to appoint promptly.
