About the location Our Essendon Fields location serves as both our manufacturing hub and head office, anchoring our strategic team and Modbotics operations. About the role Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer, the Cost Accountant will play a critical role in overseeing cost structures for our innovative manufacturing line. The Cost Accountant is responsible for collecting, analysing and reporting on cost accounting data. This includes preparing standard cost reports, monitoring inventory levels, cost comparisons, product costing analysis, tracking variances and making journal entries. You will also collaborate with other departments to ensure accurate budgeting and forecasting processes. Your day to day will include: Develop and maintain robust cost accounting systems to track and report on production costs, inventory valuations, and material allocations. Prepare purchase orders for material acquisition. Purchase Order matching to delivery dockets and processing invoices. Analyse and report on standard costs, product costings, and job costing variances across multiple projects. Prepare monthly management accounts, including profit & loss reports with detailed commentary on material and production cost performance. Lead inventory valuation, stock reconciliations, cycle counts, and ongoing cost control procedures. Provide technical accounting support for budgeting and forecasting, with a focus on variance analysis and manufacturing efficiency. Partner with operational and production teams to implement process improvements and educate stakeholders on cost drivers and financial accountability. Ensure accurate data integration from operational software and ERP systems into accounting frameworks. Support the costing of new products and custom projects with detailed financial models and insights. Salary Range $100,000 - $110,000 super What You’ll Bring A degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business, and CPA/CA qualified (or working towards). Proven experience in an accounting or manufacturing finance role. Strong technical knowledge of standard costing, inventory management, and variance analysis. Proficiency in Excel and ERP/costing software; ability to work across digital production tools. Excellent communication skills and the confidence to engage with cross-functional teams on the factory floor.
