About the roleAs Associate Accountant (Operations), you’ll be right at the heart of UNE’s financial success. Reporting to the Manager Financial Accounting and Operations, you’ll take the lead on preparing statutory reports, ensuring regulatory compliance, and keeping the University’s fixed asset register in top shape. You’ll work closely with stakeholders across UNE, delivering clear financial advice, building capability and always keeping customer service front of mind. You’ll be responsible for statutory and regulatory reporting, financial analysis, asset accounting, and driving continuous improvement across financial processes and systems. You’ll work collaboratively across the University, liaise with audit and regulatory bodies, and promote financial capability through knowledge-sharing initiatives. Operating under general direction, you’ll be a key contributor to UNE’s financial sustainability and success. About the GroupFinance, Strategy and Business Intelligence (FSBI) consists of three main areas: Financial Services, Procurement and Business Intelligence. The division’s vision is for UNE to have an integrated and effective planning, finance and performance management framework that supports the decentralised management of resources, where UNE has the data and analysis needed to achieve excellence. FSBI is recognised for its financial transparency and consistently meeting its statutory (and contractual obligations) in relation to financial management probity. The Financial Accounting team plays a crucial role in maintaining the university’s financial integrity and compliance. The team manages financial reporting, ensure accurate record-keeping and months-end reconciliations, oversee audit processes, and support regulatory compliance with accounting standards. The team is responsible for preparing financial statements, managing fixed assets, and providing transparency in the university’s financial operations as well as preparing the annual FBT Return, the monthly BAS, annual Payroll Tax return and Project acquittals. In addition, the Student Accounts Team is located within the team, which is responsible for managing tuition fees, payments, and financial transactions related to enrolments. The team provides assistance with invoices, payment plans, outstanding balances, and government loan schemes such as HECS-HELP and FEE-HELP. The goal is to ensure a smooth financial experience throughout the students’ studies.
