Description About the Role: MP is seeking a skilled and client-focused Superannuation Accountant to join its team. In this role, you’ll be responsible for managing a portfolio of Self-Managed Superannuation Fund (SMSF) clients and ensuring their compliance with taxation and superannuation regulations. You’ll handle the end-to-end compliance process, including the preparation of financial statements, income tax returns, and liaising with auditors and actuaries. This role also involves strong relationship management, internal collaboration with the SMSF and financial planning teams, and active involvement in business development initiatives. This position offers flexibility and could be structured as a 4-day part-time role for the right candidate, making it ideal for professionals seeking work-life balance while continuing to work in a high-performing and supportive environment. Key Responsibilities: Client Care & Relationship Management Manage a dedicated portfolio of SMSF clients, ensuring their taxation and compliance needs are met Maintain regular, proactive communication with clients to build trust and identify value-adding opportunities Provide advice, attend client meetings, and follow up with timely and clear communication Compliance & Superannuation Prepare year-end compliance work for SMSFs including financial statements and income tax returns Set up new SMSFs and manage ongoing tax payment reminders Work collaboratively with auditors and actuaries to ensure all reporting and compliance standards are met Ensure ATO lodgements, Centrelink reporting, and other regulatory deadlines are consistently achieved Technical Development & Advisory Maintain up-to-date knowledge of SIS legislation, superannuation tax law, and compliance obligations Use SMSF software (preferably Class) to process client work efficiently and accurately Identify superannuation or financial planning issues and recommend suitable strategies Teamwork & Leadership Support less experienced team members through mentoring and training, particularly on tax returns and SMSF processes Contribute to a positive, values-driven team environment Participate in firm meetings, training sessions, and social events Business Development Promote the firm's services and identify referral opportunities across MP departments Actively participate in firm-hosted and external events to build the firm's brand Assist with marketing initiatives and provide input into business improvement opportunities Key Performance Indicators (KPIs): Maintain 80% personal productivity (net of write-offs) Meet annual billing and referral targets Ensure timely and accurate lodgement of all compliance obligations Achieve strong client retention and satisfaction Contribute to team development and performance review processes Skills And Experiences Skills and Experience Required: Approximately 5 years of experience in an SMSF-focused accounting role in public practice Strong knowledge of SMSF legislation, compliance, and tax rules Experience with SMSF accounting software (Class preferred) Proficiency in the use of accounting and tax preparation software Excellent communication, interpersonal, and relationship management skills Proven ability to manage a client base independently Capacity to identify and pursue new business opportunities Strong time management, organisational, and prioritisation skills
